The Masked Singer fans might have noticed that the show did not air during its usual Wednesday night timeslot on November 27. The reason for this break is that the episode scheduled for this week will instead air on Thanksgiving night, Thursday at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT, in a special airing.
The Thanksgiving episode will also be special in its thematic approach. The final three competitors of Group C will face off in a Peanuts-inspired Thanksgiving-themed challenge, adding a fun, seasonal twist to the competition.
The episode will feature the final three competitors of Group C—Royal Knight, Sherlock Hound, and Strawberry Shortcake—competing for a spot in the semifinals.
Why did The Masked Singer skip its regular slot tonight and what's next?
Why Thanksgiving might be the right time for a new episode
Although airing a show on Thanksgiving night may seem risky, The Masked Singer could benefit from the family-centric nature of the holiday. Traditionally, Thanksgiving is a time when many scripted shows opt to skip their regular broadcasts to avoid competing with family gatherings and holiday plans.
As such, airing a new episode of The Masked Singer on Thanksgiving night may seem like an unusual choice. However, FOX is likely betting on the show's appeal to family viewers who are home, watching TV together after their holiday meals.
Recap of the recent episode: "Miley Cyrus Night" on The Masked Singer
The latest episode of The Masked Singer, aired on Wednesday, November 20, celebrated "Miley Cyrus Night." Group C contestants—Ice King, Sherlock Hound, Strawberry Shortcake, and Royal Knight—kicked off with an energetic performance of Party In The USA.
They honored Miley's musical journey with performances of her iconic songs, including Used To Be Young, Midnight Sky, Wrecking Ball, and When I Look At You. The episode ended with Ice King unmasked after performing Midnight Sky.
Despite his good vocal delivery and being a "crowd favorite" as panelist Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg described him, Ice King did not advance to the Group C finals. The final clue of the night said that Ice King was a Teen Choice Award winner, which sent the panelists into guesses of celebrities such as Joe Jonas, Shia LaBeouf, James Franco, or Cole Sprouse.
However, the real identity of Ice King was revealed to be none other than singer and actor Drake Bell, making Jenny's earlier guess the correct one. Sherlock Hound, who performed Used To Be Young, was praised by the panel for delivering a beautiful performance, with guesses ranging from John Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls to Scott Stapp of Creed.
Meanwhile, Strawberry Shortcake, who sang Wrecking Ball, impressed the panel with her vocal ability, with guesses including Chloe Fineman, Hilary Duff, and Ashley Tisdale. The final performance of the night came from Royal Knight, who performed When I Look At You.
The panelists showered the Royal Knight with compliments, speculating that the performer could be Amanda Seyfried, Jennifer Love Hewitt, or Aubrey Plaza.
