Selling Sunset returned with its eighth season on Netflix and cast member Heather Rae was nowhere to be found. Heather was one of the initial members and focus of the Selling Sunset when it first premiered in 2019.

Heather came on The Skinny Confidential podcast which was released on April 3, 2024, and talked about the reason she left the show. She said, filming of the show was disturbing her real-life job as a real estate agent and the working environment was "very toxic" for her. She said:

“With ‘Selling Sunset’, I never knew when I was going to be filming. It was last minute, it took over my life, it was hard to do my real job — real estate. It was hard to do anything else.”

Heather talked about why she left Selling Sunset

Heather Rae El Moussa and her husband Tarek El Moussa appeared on the Skinny Confidential podcast, to talk about their new show The Flipping El Moussas. The show follows the two as they balance their newlywed's life with their professional careers as real estate agents.

On the podcast, Heather revealed that she was not called back after season 7. However, she felt it was a blessing that she wasn't called back because it was taking a lot of her time and energy. She added that she was more happy filming her show with Tarek.

Heather and Tarek were the producers of their new show and had the flexibility of choosing the filming hours. Heather said that this aspect was missing while she was filming for Selling Sunset and they were called at the very last minute to film something.

Heather added that due her to filming for the reality show, she was not getting any family time. She was away from her husband and her kids for longer periods. They live in Orange County so she had to drive up to LA and it was brutal for her. Heather said:

"I was away from him [Tarek] all the time, I was away from our kids all the time... I'd be gone for like 12 to 14 hours someday. It was crazy cuz we live in Orange County so I had to drive up to LA and so it was pretty brutal... they just want more and more and more"

Selling Sunset star then talked about the working environment on the show. She said that the producers wanted more filming and it was exhausting for her. She had a level-headed attitude throughout her run on the show and was friends with everyone. However, she said that the show's environment was "very toxic". All of her cast mates wanted the spotlight and were constantly fighting for it.

"I pretty much was levelheaded almost the whole time. I was kind of you know friends with everyone... I kept things like pretty chill in my life and um but yeah it's very toxic. You're around a bunch of women that everyone wants to be stars on the show and number one and you know they'll kind of do anything", Heather said.

While the filming schedules were exhausting for her she said that she was very grateful for being on the show. She has a great fan base and she was able to touch a lot of people's lives with her work on the show.

Selling Sunset experience was a great transition into her new show The Slipping El Moussas. With her new show, she got the opportunity to design homes and flip homes with her husband and was excited for her future.

All the episodes of Selling Sunset season 8 are available for streaming on Netflix.
