Kim Kardashian recently wore the late Princess Diana's iconic cross necklace to a gala, sending social media into a frenzy. On Saturday, November 2, Kardashian made an appearence at the 2024 LACMA Art + Film Gala in Los Angeles rocking a white Gucci gown with a plunging neckline alongside a pearl choker, a pearl collar necklace, and Princess Diana's Attallah Cross pendant.

The reality TV star's vintage look was completed with an off-shoulder ivory cape-style coat. Kardashian acquired the late Princess' pendant, which weighed 5.25 carats and featured circular diamonds and square-cut amethyst during a 2023 Sotheby's auction for $200,000. This is the first time the piece has been sported publically since the late princess.

Social media users weren't too keen on Kardashian's tribute to the late princess. A few users thought that the Reality TV star was obsessed with the belongings of those who had moved on.

One Instagram user, who went by @riestyles on the platform, commented:

Similar reactions followed as more people were concerned about Kim's alleged aforementioned obsession. Social media users thought that Kardashian "devalued" the jewelry as her style did not match Princess Diana's.

For a lot of netizens, the whole situation felt "disrespectful" with many adding that the necklace belonged in a museum or with her kids.

Kim Kardashian previously sported outfits worn by Janet Jackson and Marilyn Monroe

This is not the first time that Kim Kardashian has sported fashion formerly belonging to other icons. Earlier this year in June, Kim Kardashian arrived at Janet Jackson's Together Again tour in one of the I Get Lonely hitmaker's iconic music video outfits.

Kardashian sported the same exact outfit from the award-winning music video for the singer's 1993 hit, If. Kardashian bought the outfit for $25,000 during a 2021 auction at Julien's Auctions, celebrating Jackson's 55th birthday. The outfit consisted of a bone-detailed custom-made suede-collared crop top, and a pair of grommet lace-up flared pants.

In her aforementioned tour appearance at Acrisure Arena, Thousand Palms, California, the singer completed her look with the help of some large hoop earrings and pointed black boots. She also shared Instagram stories of her time at the concert alongside Kris Jenner and Khloé Kardashian.

Going further back, Kardashian first stirred up similar controversy when she sported Marilyn Monroe's iconic crystal-covered nude silk gown at the 2022 Met Gala. As she was unable to do her zipper up at the back, Kardashian wore the $4.8m outfit alongside a white fur stole.

According to The Guardian, Kim undertook an extreme weight-loss regimen just to be able to fit into the dress. Allegations of Kim Kardashian causing a great deal of damage to the dress went viral, including from collector Scott Fortner. However, Ripley’s Believe It Or Not!, who owns the dress, issued a statement on their official website, denying such claims.

This was the first time the dress was sported in public since Monroe herself wore it to the Madison Square Garden in 1962 to serenade John F Kennedy on his 45th birthday.

The legendary actress sang a rendition of Happy Birthday to the then-president while sporting the dress. Three months after the event, Monroe tragically passed away following a Barbiturate overdose.
