The Mole, an ABC original reality TV show, aired for the first time in January 2001. Anderson Cooper, an American broadcast journalist and political commentator, hosted the show. In 2008, with 5 seasons in the series, the show ended, and ABC discontinued the production, citing issues like low ratings and views. Fans found the format of the show along with the hosts quite inconsistent, which is one reason for sliding ratings.

The Mole is promoted as being unscripted. The show hosts a bunch of contestants (10-14 participants) together in a location where they have different tasks to perform, which will help them ultimately win the money and add it to the cash pool. One contestant is 'the mole,' who is here to sabotage the missions and compromise the cash prize.

Netflix launched season 1 of a reimagined version of the show on October 7, 2022, with Alex Wagner as its host. The second season premieres on June 28, 2024, on Netflix, hosted by Ari Shapiro in Malaysia.

The Mole was first broadcast in 2001 by ABC. It lasted for five seasons, including a spin-off. The show featured contestants, including a traitor named 'the mole', who competed in a quiz competition to identify the traitor. The last one to survive takes away the cash prize.

The first two seasons of the show aired in 2001 and were hosted by Anderson Cooper. But it took almost 2 years for the show to come back and the format was also changed from having civilians to celebrities this time. The next two seasons were spin-offs titled Celebrity Mole.

It was an all-celebrity-based cast and the prize money went to charity. The spin-off came with a new host as well. Ahmad Rashad hosted the 2003 and 2004 seasons of The Mole.

As stated by TV Series Finale, the show's ratings started declining and thus it was canceled owing to low ratings. Season 5's opening attracted a healthy 4.73 million live viewers, but by the season finale, that figure had dropped to under 3 million. Even with DVR viewing included, the total only increased to 3.09 million.

Besides the low rating, the inconsistent nature of the show's premiere also led to the show's downfall. The audience did not well receive the spin-off, as they were expecting the same amount of thrill, challenges, and adventure.

With such low ratings and a downfall in the viewership, ABC discontinued the show as it was no longer profitable to go on producing more seasons.

With the successful revival of the show and positive response, Netflix is going ahead with season 2. Season 2 of the show will be hosted by Ari Shapiro and is about to premiere on June 28, 2024. The location of the show will be in Malaysia this time. Ari Shapiro took to his Instagram to give the audience a little sneak peek at his adventures in Malaysia.

Season 2 of The Mole is going to premiere only on Netflix on June 28, 2024.
