Love Is Blind UK released its finale on Netflix on August 21, 2024. The social experiment finally came to its culmination, with three couples getting past the dating phase and getting married to each other. Tom and Maria make it to the altar but never get married in the end. The couple had a few blips in their relationship from starting, but it went well until Tom decided not to get married to Maria because of differentiating values.
In episodes 7-8 of Love Is Blind UK, couples explored more about each other, and their respective families. Tom met Maria's family, who seemed very fond of him, irrespective of the fact that they were scared of the idea of this experiment. In episode 8, Tom expressed his concern to Maria about his mother being not open to the idea of this experiment, and therefore not joining them on the show for their wedding. He said to Maria:
"I don't think she can really understand how anyone could be so sure about someone in such a short span of time. She is, like, the person, that I would wanna be at the wedding more than anyone else."
Tom's mother did not show up for his wedding day on Love Is Blind UK
Tom Stroud and Maria Benekh from Love Is Blind UK, decided to take the leap of faith with each other and show up at the altar for the wedding day. However, the result was not a fairytale for them, as Tom did not feel ready for the marriage at that time and decided to back off. Tom had few reservations since the beginning of their living together.
Tom was concerned about their drastic differences regarding finances, value system, and most important being, his mother not being there for the wedding day as she did not believe in this experiment at all. He expressed this concern to Maria as well as mentioned before.
Maria acknowledged his concern and reflected that she would be equally sad if her mother was not there for the wedding. In a confessional in episode 8 of Love Is Blind UK, Tom also said:
"I do feel a little bit low as my mom is the most important person in my life. I wanna stay true to my feelings towards Maria, you now. But whenever I've thought about how I'd get married, my mom was always at the forefront of it. So, it does feel little bit strange knowing that she is not gonna be there."
Tom shared in a Q&A on his Instagram Stories on August 16 that his mother is a "private person", and there she does not want to be shown on TV.
He further shared:
"My mum is my rock and I would've loved to have shown people how amazing she is, but she is a very private person and had absolutely no desire to be on TV in front of millions of people. Her and Maria spent the day together in London though and they were two peas in a pod and had lots of similarities."
In episode 10 of Love Is Blind UK, the couple walked down the altar. Tom expressed to Maria that he loved her, but right now was not the right time for him. He further said:
"We've had some differences in values, and i haven't had enough time to really understand how those differences would affect our day-to-day life."
Tom walked away and called off the wedding. Maria found herself in disbelief regarding what happened, she accepted her fate, and walked off with her wedding dress, hoping for a better future.
