The latest episode of The Voice, which was released on October 29, 2024, saw coach Michael Bublé open up about his latest single, Forever Now. While mentoring contestants Aliyah Khaylyn and Sofronio Vasquez, he said that his song was one of the most emotional originals he had written.
Bublé explained that the song was about his son's health battle and it was too vulnerable for him to sing it live. However, when his son got better, Michael "started to find the strength" in performing it on stage.
The Voice judge previously opened up about that time of his life on his appearance on the Diary of a CEO podcast's December 2023 episode. He said that it was a "sledgehammer to [his] reality."
“I will never be carefree again in my life, and that’s okay. It is a privilege for me to exist. That pain, the fear, the suffering that comes with those sort of things, I guess it’s part of this beautiful life,” the singer said.
The Voice judge Michael Bublé opens up about his son's diagnosis
During his 2023 interview, Michael Bublé shared that his son's diagnosis made him realize what his priorities were. The Voice judge shared that this was a tough time in his life that "pulled the curtain" from over his eyes. Bublé admitted that he didn't have his priorities right and was focused on his career and ambition. He stated that he didn't think he had his "priorities straight."
“My family was always the love [of my life] and I don’t think I was a terrible guy, but it was blinders: career, ambition. How do I become the baddest, biggest, best? More ego, more power, more money?” the singer added.
He noted that he was having a "crisis," and after his son Noah's diagnosis, Michael promised himself that he would let go of his ego and not let his "false self" take over. The singer's son, Noah, was diagnosed with liver cancer at the age of three.
The Voice's new coach also elaborated on his family's struggles during this health scare, recalling how he closed his eyes and promised himself to be kinder. He said that he vowed to start living a "different" and "better life," which he had begun doing.
“I want to be more empathetic. I don’t ever want to allow that ego and that false self to take over. I want to know how lucky I am,” the judge said.
Towards the end of the interview, Michael expressed gratitude for being "lucky." In another December 2021 People Magazine interview, Michael stated he would never wish that struggle upon anyone. However, the new The Voice judge admitted that "fear and loss" allows people to "live a deeper life."
"Even though for some of us who have lost so much these last few years, whether it's our jobs or our loved ones, it doesn't all come with negative connotations. There's always a silver lining to that cloud," Michael said.
Fans can follow him on his official Instagram account and watch him coach the new singers on The Voice season 26 along with fellow judges Snoop Dogg, Gwen Stefani, and Reba McEntire. The show airs exclusively on NBC every week on Mondays and Tuesdays.
