Love is Blind: Mexico is a reality dating show where single people try to find love and propose to each other without ever meeting. Contestants only connect emotionally through conversations in separate 'pods.'
After the couples get engaged, they meet in person to see if their feelings can carry over into the real world. René and Irais, one of the popular couples on the show Love is Blind: Mexico, grew close in the pods. But there were some challenging moments in their journey, especially because René loved alcohol. During their date, René said,
"The first issue we had was in the pods, the alcohol. I said, "Get to know me, enjoy this and we'll see if it's an issue. I don't know if it was something personal, but it's like you didn't trust me or believe me."

The strain on trust: René and Irais's emotional lunch date in Love is Blind: Mexico
René and Irais talked about their problems during a lunch date before the wedding; which would decide the future of their relationship. René decided to open up to Irais because they had fought in the past, especially over his drinking, which Irais had always found annoying. Even though she really liked him, her concerns about how much he drank caused an issue between them.
"You know I love alcohol, but that's not an issue for me. What do you want? To see me wasted," René said.
Irais replied,
"I wanna see what you're like when you're drunk. Because I've seen you drinking but not drunk."
René explained that he didn't get drunk every time he went out. He had certain places and certain people with whom he liked going out and getting drunk. But whatever she was picturing in her head was not going to happen.
Irais expressed in the confessional of Love is Blind: Mexico that her issue was not alcohol but rather the violent behavior that was caused by alcohol. But she wasn't sure if it happened with René.

René and Irais had a rocky start from the beginning. After forming a connection in the pods, their first in-person meeting was difficult, and Irais initially turned René down. She struggled to match their emotional bond with his appearance, which created issues. However, René and Irais decided to try again outside of Love is Blind: Mexico, reconnecting and returning as an engaged couple.
Things changed in their relationship when they moved in together. They ran into the same problems they had during the show, especially with René's drinking, and they got worse. Irais was concerned about his drinking, not only because of his bad habits but also because it could get in the way of the life she wanted for herself.
On the other hand, René felt misunderstood and alone, which built up tension that finally came to a head during their lunch date conversation. After the chat, they went ahead with their decision to get married, but in the aisle, René said no to getting married as he wasn't prepared to take this step with Irais.
