Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 premiered on October 7, 2024, and has seen a mix of high-stakes yachting and behind-the-scenes drama among the crew. Like the previous seasons, season 5 also saw its share of chaos, with a few significant mishaps that have caused tensions to rise on board the Parsifal III.

The midseason trailer of Below Deck Sailing Yacht, which was released on Monday, December 2, 2024, saw Captain Glenn Shephard leading the crew for the fifth time. He is seen delivering a strict warning to his crew for breaking the rules and confronts them about the same.

“You knew the rules,” the Captain said.

Tensions rise as Captain Glenn confronts his crew on Below Deck Sailing Yacht

The midseason trailer for Below Deck Sailing Yacht was released on Monday, December 2, 2024. Captain Glenn’s statement regarding the crew breaking the rules was a significant moment in the trailer. It is worth noting that this kind of reprimand is quite common, as crew members often face consequences for failing to meet expectations.

In this case, however, Glenn’s reaction was marked by frustration and disappointment.

“I don't want to take you guys' tip, but you knew the rules. You broke the f***ing rules, and now you're getting upset,” he said.

The captain’s warning to the crew is clear: while mistakes can happen, the crew members must adhere to the rules, especially when it affects the quality of service and the operation of the yacht.

The midseason trailer shows some of the crew members, including Gary and Daisy, visibly defeated as they listen to Glenn’s reprimand, further emphasizing the weight of the situation, saying,

“Over the course of this season, there have been a fair share of big f-ckups that could've easily been avoided.”

These include a variety of issues, such as Gary King causing damage to a tender and Emma Crouch’s failure to perform her basic duties as a deckhand, which ultimately led to her being fired. The crew’s repeated failures and lack of attention to critical details created tensions that Captain Glenn felt needed to be addressed.

Other highlights in the midseason trailer

Besides the drama that arises from breaking the rule, there are many more significant events to be unraveled in the rest of the season. Among these is the love triangle between Diana Cruz, Danni Warren, and the new deckhand, Chase Lemacks.

The Below Deck Sailing Yacht midseason trailer hints at a change as Emma is replaced by Chase, and the dynamic onboard shifts as both Danni and Diana are interested in him, but Chase returns feelings for both women, saying,

"Danni and Diana, they're both amazing."

Another major moment in the trailer involves a request from charter guests for the entire crew to undergo “drag makeovers.” The makeover scene shows the crew stepping out of their usual roles, engaging in playful activities such as body shots of whipped cream and donning wigs. One of the guests saying to Captain Glenn,

"They're gonna behave, daddy, I promise."

Early tensions in season 5 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht

In the first part of Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5, Captain Glenn Shephard addressed Chef Cloyce Martin’s struggles, particularly regarding professionalism. In episode 4, Glenn warned Cloyce after he skipped lunch prep to join an excursion with guests, saying,

"Keep in mind professionalism."

Additionally, Daisy Kelliher raised concerns when Cloyce served a store-bought birthday cake, which she described as looking "like a pile of dog sh-t."

Captain Glenn spoke about the incident in a recent interview, saying that while the crew typically expects the chef to make desserts, there are rare cases where buying a cake might be necessary. He explained,

"In some circumstances, maybe it’s not realistic...So sometimes you have to cut corners."

However, he reaffirmed that the general expectation is for the chef to prepare dishes from scratch.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht airs on Bravo Mondays at 9/8c and streams the day after on Peacock.
