The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On season 3 premiered its first 5 episodes on December 4, hosted by Nick and Vanessa Lachey. The show featured six couples at a crossroads in their relationships, who must decide whether to commit to a marriage or part ways. To achieve this goal, each participant would temporarily separate from their partner and enter into a trial marriage with someone new.

The six participating couples were Zaina and J.R., Nick and Sandy, Mariah and Caleb, Scotty and Aria, Chanel and Micah, and Vanessa and Dave. In episode 2 of The Ultimatum: Marry Or Move On, Sandy and J.R.'s chemistry became increasingly apparent, catching Nick's attention and sparking feelings of unease amongst Sandy's ex.

Sandy acknowledged that J.R. "could potentially be a better fit" than Nick. The two reconnected during the second cocktail party, discussing their thoughts on the trial marriage process. J.R. asked Sandy how she felt and admitted feeling uneasy about the impending choice.

J.R. shared his conflicted emotions, revealing that he was drawn to Sandy's risk-taking nature, which resonated with his personality. Sandy reciprocated, feeling that the other options were "safer," but she was a risk-taker too. J.R. appreciated Sandy's vulnerability throughout the process.

"I've been weighing my options. I'm conflicted. I like taking risk in life, and you're a big risk," stated J.R.

The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On star J.R. went on a bar date with Sandy

During his date with Sandy on The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On, she revealed that she had abstained from drinking until they met up, and J.R. suggested they celebrate by having a few drinks together. As they conversed, Sandy inquired about J.R.'s living habits, and he described himself as "independent," cooking his own meals and adhering to a strict diet.

Sandy was impressed by J.R.'s self-discipline and motivated him further to achieve his goals. J.R. was pumped up by Sandy's words and felt a deeper connection with her. As their conversation flowed, Sandy and J.R. discovered they shared similar experiences, having both given ultimatums in their past relationships.

"That's probably why we vibe, because we're both given ultimatums. That's why we're willing to go through this experiment, right, to see if there's other options, or to find ourselves," said J.R.

Sandy and J.R.'s connection continued to grow, and they eventually shared a kiss. Due to their date, J.R. was left to navigate his conflicting feelings for both Sandy and Aria as he went on a date with the latter as well.

J.R. felt emotionally connected with Aria due to their similar past

On his date with Aria, they engaged in conversations, discussing their desires for a future partner. Aria shared that she could "have an emotionally intelligent conversation" with J.R. and "see characteristics" that she "truly wants in a marriage."

J.R. opened up about his past relationship, where infidelity was a significant issue. He confessed that although he had moved on, the experience had left a lasting impact, making him cautious in his search for a partner. Aria empathized with J.R.'s perspective, sharing her own experiences with her parents' tumultuous relationships.

"I think I've watched so many bad relationships with my parents. And so, I feel like I am adamant about not wanting to change my ex, but I want him to, like, really see, like, why I feel this way. And if he cannot see it, then he's not the one for me," stated Aria.

Aria revealed that she had initially misjudged J.R., thinking of him as "a pretty face with muscles." She stated that in the past, she had dated physically attractive men, but they had been emotionally unavailable.

As the date progressed, Aria confessed to feeling guilty for developing a connection with J.R. on The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On. J.R. reassured her that it was natural to feel that way, especially since they had both parted ways with their exes just a week prior. Despite these feelings, J.R. acknowledged that he was developing strong emotions for Aria.
