Young, Famous & African season 3 episode 1 recap: The cast returns as Zari prepares for her wedding

The African reality TV series Young, Famous & African season was released on Netflix on January 17, 2025. It starred well-known African celebrities like Khanyi Mbau, Annie Macaulay-Idibia, Nadia Nakai, Swanky Jerry, and Zari Hassan. In the first episode of season 3, the cast gathered to attend Zari's wedding, where Annie confronted Nadia about taking Swanky's side.

The show follows the daily lives of these media personalities from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Uganda, and Tanzania. It showed how they balanced their careers and personal relationships. A new cast joined the show, including South African content creator Kefilwe Mabote, Nigerian actress Ini Edo, and entrepreneur Shakib Lutaaya. They brought fresh energy to the series.

What happened in Young, Famous & African season 3 episode 1?

The Young, Famous & African season 3 kicked off with Zari announcing that she was going to get married. Annie arrived in Johannesburg and expressed her surprise at being invited to the wedding despite their differences. She was still skeptical and was worried that Zari might "try to pull something" on her. Just like Annie, Fantana, and Nadia were equally surprised at being invited.

Fantana expressed to Nadia on her way that she believed the invite was a prank. Zari and Fantana were not on good terms previously, due to Fantana's ex talking badly about her. Fantana expressed that she was happy for Zari as she decided to go to the wedding.

As the cast members of Young, Famous & African arrived at the wedding, a few of them expressed concerns regarding not trusting each other. Swanky Jerry though revealed that he had been to therapy

"I think everyone by now should be better than the last time we hung out. I'm definitely working on myself. In the past year, I've been in therapy," said Swanky.

After greeting everyone, Nadia asked about Annie, who wasn't present at the venue. Annie soon arrived and stated in a confessional that she wanted to confront Nadia but would wait for the right time to clear things out with her. DJ Naked sat down with Zari's going-to-be husband, Shakib. The groom asked about Zari's ex, Diamond, and Zari's relationship which DJ Naked didn't like.

DJ Naked assured Shakib that Zari was in love with him and the Young, Famous & African cast later moved to the altar where the couple were about to exchange vows. They exchanged rings and got married in front of all the guests.

"I got married. I'm feeling so good. I married my best friend. It's such a beautiful day," claimed Zari in a confessional.

As the bride and groom left the ceremony, Annie confronted Nadia about last season when Nadia claimed that Annie was not her friend and took Swanky's side during their fight. The scene then shifts to the dinner scene, where Fantana expresses her dissatisfaction regarding being seated next to the empty seat of Diamond. Fantana felt that Zari could have done so on purpose because they were her two least favorite people.

Newcomer Kefilwe soon walked which caught the eye of Luis. She soon walked towards Swanky, which irked Zari as she was not notified of a +1 from Swanky. Annie took the mic and thanked Zari for inviting her despite the differences. This prompted Nadia to state that she was being "fake".

Diamond later revealed that he wasn't invited to the wedding, otherwise he would have attended it. The Young, Famous & African star also expressed his frustration regarding Zari saying bad things about him on social media. While Annie met with Fantana, Nadia met with Kefilwe separately. Annie talked about her conflict with Nadia and claimed she was "disappointed" by the situation.
