10 TV villains who are way worse than Homelander from The Boys

The Boys is an Amazon Prime show that has captured viewers with its dark portrayal of what it would be like if superheroes lacked a moral compass and worked for a morally bankrupt corporate system.

And few Supes embody the consequences of the broken system of The Boys better than Homelander. An unhinged, narcissistic megalomaniac posing as an all-American hero, he's been responsible for a whole litany of crimes from r*pe to mass murder. Even when he isn't a vicious, bloodthirsty monster, Homelander has a quiet instability about him that can bubble to the surface at any moment.

Even so, he's not the most depraved character fans will find on television. There are some other characters who manage to outdo even the high bar he sets. This article lists down 10 such characters who are likely worse than The Boys' Homelander.

Disclaimer: The following list is subjective and not ranked in any particular order. Feel free to comment on who you'd put on the list.

Brother Cavill, Reinhard Heydrich, and 8 other TV villains worse than Homelander from The Boys

1) Brother Cavill from Battlestar Galactica

The final season of Battlestar Galactica reveals that Brother Cavill is the true leader of the Cylons. His motives are incredibly sadistic and petty. He's a misanthrope who despises humanity's very nature and wishes he'd never been given a humanlike body.

Unlike Homelander, whose need for approval and love has prevented him from engaging in planetwide genocidal slaughter, Cavill nearly hunted all of humanity to extinction because of a sadistic grudge.

When his fellow Cylons began rethinking their relationship with their creators, he manipulated them into instituting an oppressive regime on New Caprica just so he could satisfy his need for control.

Vicious, narcissistic, and megalomaniacal, there are no lengths Cavill won't go to to control those around him.

2) Reinhard Heydrich from The Man In the High Castle

Like The Boys, The Man in the High Castle is a Prime original series that explores an alternate reality where the Axis Powers have won World War II. Historically, Reinhard was already one of the most horrific enforcers of the genocidal Nazi regime, to the point that Hitler called him "the man with the iron heart."

In The Man In The High Castle, Reinhard becomes even worse than he had the chance to be in history, fighting against his own Fuhrer even after the Axis Powers have won the war.

Because in his mind, there shouldn't be any Axis Powers. There should only be Germany, and he will go to any lengths, including murdering his own leader and starting a third world war, to make that happen.

Even Homelander from The Boys struggled to buy into Stormfront's Nazi beliefs fully, and Stormfront herself never gave any indication of treachery towards the Fuhrer, making Reinhard a unique brand of madman.

3) Chuck from Supernatural

While Homelander from The Boys has a desperate desire to be a God, Chuck is already one. While he initially appears to be a helpful prophet, he slowly showcases a more callous side.

By the final season, it becomes clear that he has no actual empathy for any of his creations and sees them purely as toys for his amusement.

Despite toying with the Winchester brothers throughout the entirety of the series, he becomes petulant and spiteful when they finally stop doing things on his terms. He has no problems just tossing them aside if they won't serve his need for amusement.

Disgusted upon learning of his true colors, Sam and Dean go to war with him as the final main antagonist in the Supernatural series. Homelander, as much as he might want to, is not capable of lording over the world like an uncaring God.

4) Stormfront from The Boys

Stormfront is perhaps the only major villain from The Boys who manages to upstage Homelander with how reprehensible her plans are.

A devout Nazi who's secretly conspiring to finish what the Third Reich started, she's an avowed racist who'll happily take any chance she can to massacre minorities under the veneer of "collateral damage".

While Homelander from The Boys is a major narcissist who will happily murder anyone he doesn't like, his primary motivation is stroking his ego, not the resurrection of one of the most genocidal regimes in history. Despite starting an affair with her, he's still visibly uncomfortable with her true agenda.

5) Mason Verger from Hannibal

Mason Verger is among the most monstrous and depraved characters in all of Hannibal. A serial pedoph*le who also abuses and r*pes his sister, he blackmails her with the threat of disinheritance should she refuse his incestuous plan to father a child with her.

A vicious, controlling monster with no real redeeming qualities, Mason's very presence casts an eerie and repugnant shadow over every scene he's in. The series makes it clear that there are no lows he won't sink to should he feel the need.

Homelander from The Boys was subjected to an abusive upbringing in a lab and took righteous vengeance on the scientists who abused him. While he has no qualms about killing children to suit his purposes, putting anyone through such grotesque abuse would be a bridge too far, even for him.

6) Father Donovan from Dexter

Father Donovan was the first onscreen victim claimed by Dexter Morgan in the Showtime series, and also among the worst. A predatory, pedoph*lic priest, he took things even further by murdering the children he preyed upon and burying their bodies.

When Dexter confronted him about his crimes, all Father Donovan could do was beg for his life, pitifully invoke the name of God, and finally admit that he couldn't help being this kind of monster. Dexter understands him but doesn't forgive him because Dexter has standards.

Say what you will about Homelander from The Boys, but he's not someone with a mass grave of dead children in his backyard.

7) Ramsay Bolton from Game of Thrones

Ramsay Bolton is, in many ways, the kind of monster Homelander from The Boys wishes he could be. A bloodthirsty tyrant with no self-control or empathy for others, he tortures people for fun and dehumanizes and degrades his victims until they're worse off than his own pet dogs.

Ramsay's capture and treatment of Theon Grevjoy stands out as one of the cruelest tales of abuse ever put to television.

Not only is Ramsay cruel, but he's also short-sighted, even his own father believes him to be a liability to his rule. While Roose Bolton would be content to rule over a peaceful land and a quiet people, Ramsay's complete lack of restraint causes him no end of grief.

8) David from The Last of Us

The Last of Us examines the ugly ways in which the apocalypse brings out the worst in people, and few embody that better than David. Hinted to be a predator of his students even before the outbreak, David becomes a cult leader who openly abuses his followers and extorts s*xual favors from the girls.

He's also an unabashed cannibal. While he claims that doing so is a necessary evil, the extent of his deception becomes clear when he hoards most of the food for himself and even secretly feeds his followers their loved ones.

Even Homelander from The Boys would struggle to match the sheer extent of his monstrousness.

9) Gregor Clegane from Game of Thrones

Gregor Clegane is a knight in the service of House Lannister and a complete perversion of the chivalrous ideal of one. In truth, he's nothing more than a bloodthirsty, repugnant thug with zero capacity for any empathy or humanity.

His savagery is the root cause of the deep trauma carried by his own brother, Sandor "the Hound" Clegane. Moreover, his complete lack of scruples and restraint make him little more than a mad dog to be set upon by his master's enemies.

From murdering and r*ping families without batting an eye to giving his own master, Tywin Lannister pause with how sadistic he is, he's what Homelander from The Boys would be if he discarded his few remaining scraps of empathy and wisdom: a savage monster who can do nothing but destroy everything around him.

10) Joffrey Baratheon from Game of Thrones

Joffrey Baratheon stands out as one of the most short-sighted and foolish megalomaniacs in Game of Thrones.

Having claimed his position as Robert's heir through the Lannisters' treachery, he wastes no time in tearing apart their carefully laid plans by provoking open war with the North. He antagonizes his own people by putting them to death for utterly childish reasons.

While Homelander from The Boys has certainly let his narcissism affect his better judgment many times over, even he at least values the public's adoration and would think twice before throwing a childish tantrum that ruins his image. Joffrey has no such wisdom, and and never gains the level of respect and influence Homelander earns.

With the high bar, Homelander set with his villainy in The Boys, it can be hard to imagine someone out there worse than him. However, television is no stranger to showcasing the worst aspects of human nature, including monsters who manage to outdo Homelander in their depravity.
