One of the best ways a show can create an audience’s interest is by introducing cliffhangers. The device is nothing but the insertion of an unexpected plot in the storyline that builds the viewer’s interest but refuses to take it to culmination in the same episode. This keeps the audience hanging as they want to know what happens next.

The use of cliffhangers should be carefully done and at the right moment as its overuse can fall flat and not generate any interest. 1) The Rookie

Starring Nathan Fillion, Alyssa Diaz, and others, The Rookie is a drama show that takes inspiration from the life of Los Angeles Police Officer (LAPD) officer William Norcross, who joined the police force in his mid-40s. Fillion plays the role of John Nolan, who becomes the most senior rookie at the LAPD and must solve interesting cases.

The show decided to add cliffhangers in its latest season when Nolan and Bailey are about to adopt and create a family but Bailey’s ex-husband breaks out of prison. It would therefore be interesting to see how this aspect is played out in the show’s seventh season in 2025.

2) Chicago Med

Created by Dick Wolf, Chicago Med, is a medical drama series that revolves around the lives of a group of doctors and nurses at the fictional Gaffney Chicago Medical Center. The show is fast-paced as the staff deals with emergency department cases and have to also sort out their personal and professional lives.

In the latest season, Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) deals with a dangerous stalker. In the last episode of the year, she comes face-to-face with the stalker who stabs Sharon and she tries to seek the attention of Archer (Steven Weber).

However, it is only when the elevator doors are closing that Archer sees Sharon but by then, the attacker is behind her. One will have to wait till the next year to see the result of these cliffhangers.

3) Tracker

Based on the novel by Jeffery Deaver, Tracker, is an action drama show starring Justin Hartley as the survivalist and tracker, Colter Shaw, who helps the government and private people for a financial reward.

In the latest episode, Colter talks to Camille, who does not want to search further for her missing sister, Gina. However, Colter decides to take the help of a former cop, Keaton. Keaton calls Colter and tells him that he is questioning a person connected to Gina’s disappearance.

When Colter asks the person if Gina is alive, he makes an expression that seems like approval. Fans will have to find out in 2025 to see the outcome of these cliffhangers.

4) Doctor Odyssey

Starring Joshua Jackson, Sean Teale, Phillipa Soo, and others, Doctor Odyssey is a medical drama that revolves around the life of Max (Jackson) and his group of doctors who handle cases aboard a luxury liner. The series also delves into their personal lives.

The show ends with a cliffhanger when Avery, Max, and Tristan become intimate, and soon after, Avery discovers that she is pregnant. Max and Tristan defend themselves by saying that they had used protection. Both men pledge their support to Avery in whatever decision she takes. Viewers will have to wait till the next year to find out who the baby’s father is.

5) Chicago P.D.

Another creation by Dick Wolf, Chicago P.D., is a police drama that stars Jason Beghe, Sophia Bush, Amy Morton, and others. The show follows the professional and personal lives of the officers at the Intelligence Unit of the 21st District of the Chicago Police Department. The series mainly focuses on street crimes.

In the latest episode, Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) has a relationship with his informant Gloria, which is hidden from the force. But when Gloria takes part in a police mission to catch a drug cartel, she gets shot and dies—also revealing the truth of the affair.

Deputy Chief Reid decides to pardon Torres but also tells Voight that he would like to use this information. It would be interesting to see what such cliffhangers lead to in 2025.
