Shaunna Dood killed her husband, Brad Dodd, on December 29, 2012. Brad was killed with a gun and was shot twice. Shaunna tried to frame her own story after Brad’s death, saying how two intruders came inside the house and killed her husband.

However, the detectives found her statements very fishy. With every passing day after Brad’s death and with the ongoing investigations, Shaunna was a step closer to going to jail, with new revelations about her which hinted at her being the killer.

Finally, in 2013, Shaunna was sentenced to life for killing her husband. She was charged with first-degree murder and is currently serving her life sentence at a correctional facility in Las Vegas.

Dark and Stormy Deeds on ID will focus on this staged homicide, which was made to look like a burglary that went wrong. The episode is going to air on August 24, 2024, at 10 p.m. E.T. The official synopsis of the episode reads:

"Shaunna Dodd recounts the night armed intruders invaded her home and murdered her husband."

5 chilling details about Brad Dodd's murder

1) Shaunna Dodd faked the entire story

As per reports, Shaunna shot her husband on December 29, 2012, while the whole world was getting ready for New Year’s Eve and faked the whole story. She called 911 and reported that two masked intruders entered her residence and asked her to open the house safe, which she did.

According to her, Brad's sleep broke meanwhile, and as soon as he enquired what was happening, Shaunna heard two gunshots from Brad's room. After hearing those shots, she ran and saw Brad Dodd in a pool of blood.

She reportedly said that the invaders were still inside the house, looting after they killed Brad. However, Shaunna and Alison fled the house together after Brad was shot dead, and once they were in a safe space, Shaunna dialed 911 for assistance.

The detectives did not find her story convincing. As the investigations started, the truth about the relationship between Shaunna and Dodd started coming out, which made it clear to everyone how Shaunna was the most probable one to have killed her husband.

2) Shaunna treated Alison unfairly

According to reports, Brad had taken in Alison, his 16-year-old cousin who had experienced a difficult upbringing. Brad assumed obligations as her new parent. Shaunna did not, however, treat her in the same manner that he did.

Alison used to stay at home and take care of Brad Dodd and Shaunna's kids, while she would go out late and party in the bar by keeping it open late. Alison continued to live with them despite this, never complaining because this was the best life she had ever experienced.

According to reports, Alison felt bad after admitting that Shaunna had poisoned her husband, that they had daily arguments, and that Brad was upset with Shaunna because she would often return home late. Ultimately, Alison felt that she was given a second chance at life by Bradd and Shaunna, therefore she didn't think it was right to testify against any of them.

3) Shaunna tried to poison Brad’s drink

Alison, the 16-year-old cousin of Brad, revealed to the police that Shaunna once tried to poison Brad by mixing something in his drink. Brad loved to drink Jack and Coke, but Shaunna tried to poison his drink one night. However, Brad Dodd skipped his drink that very night as he had some guests over.

As per reports, Shaunna wanted to kill him for a long time and had even wanted to hire killers for the same. Brad Dodd wasn’t very happy with Shaunna’s lifestyle and wanted her to quit her bar job and live a more civilized life, which could have offended her.

The detectives also speculated after finding Brad’s body that he was killed in his sleep. Whether he was sedated or was he just sleeping when he was shot remains a question, with no signs of struggle seen whatsoever.

4) Shaunna revealed to her boss, La Veta Dudley, that she 'snapped'

As per reports, after killing her husband, Shaunna dropped a bag at her boss’s driveway and asked her to get rid of it. Later, when La Veta Dudley told the cops about the bag and gave it to them, they recovered all the missing items from the house.

From inside the bag, a gun and a pair of gloves were also recovered. The forensics found DNA in those gloves, which matched with Shaunna's. The gun found in the bag was also the same one used to kill Brad Dodd.

La Veta told the detectives that when she asked her employee what had happened, she (Shaunna) said:

"I snapped"

Whether she killed Brad Dodd in a moment of rage or it was all she wanted for a long time remains a matter of speculation.

5) The detectives found Brad Dodd in a pool of blood

The detectives entered the house thinking that the assassins were still inside and they had taken Brad Dodd as hostage. However, when they got no response from the intruders, they went ahead.

Brad was in his bed, in a pool of blood, dead and cold. He was shot twice. One bullet had hit him at the back of his neck and the other at the right side of his skull, leaving him dead. The whole room was in a mess. However, there was no shred of evidence, no footprints, or a lead to move forward with, as per reports.
