On January 7, 2009, Selma Hill was slain by Rosa Hill and her mother, Mei Li. Eric Hill, Selma Hill's grandchild, who came inside the residence looking for her when she did not respond to calls, was also beaten and tased. However, Eric survived as the cops arrived on time.
Rosa and Mei Li were later arrested after the death of Selma. When proven guilty of the first-degree murder of Selma Hill and an attempt to murder Eric Hill, the duo was sentenced to 25 years to life on July 28, 2011.

A horrifying discovery of Selma Hill's body and other haunting details About Selma Hill’s Murder and the Attack on Eric Hill on the same day
1) Selma Hill’s body was found inside a garbage bin
As revealed in episode 3 of Worst Ex Ever, Selma Hill was found dead in a garbage can, which was placed inside an exterior shed outside her home that was locked from the outside. Her body was dumped upside down. The detectives first saw her legs and later, when they cut the lock and entered the shed, they found out that it was the corpse of the 91-year-old Selma Hill, aka Sally.
Her autopsy determined that she was strangled to death. Despite Selma Hill's age, she resisted the assassins by fighting back to defend herself, as evident by the multiple deep cuts and wounds on her body and the marks on her knuckles.
2) Eric was hit several times and even tased when he came to find his grandmom
As revealed in episode 3 of Worst Ex Ever, Eric, who came inside the house looking for his grandmom, was a victim of Mei Li and Rosa Hill. Eric was first tased and then hit with a baton. He was unconscious after he was hit on the back of his head. Mei and Rosa continued to torture him until the cops arrived. Eric tried to fight back and when he got hold of the baton, he injured Rosa with it.
Mei also tried to choke Eric with the baton and Rosa at the same time threatened to shoot Eric if he didn’t want to give up the custody of his two-year-old daughter back to her. When the detectives arrived, they got confused, as Rosa and Eric were both covered in blood.
3) Eric’s little daughter was locked in a dark washroom
Eric’s two-year-old, who was also present at the crime scene, was locked in a dark bathroom, screaming for her dad to come and rescue her. However, Eric was beaten and bruised by the mother-daughter duo. In season 3 of Worst Ex Ever, Eric talks about this horrific moment and is seen breaking down, saying -
‘I couldn’t do anything for her …..I just didn’t wanna die … I was so scared…’
Later, when Eric, Rosa, and Mei were cuffed, a CPS Worker at the scene rescued the two-year-old.
The 2-year-old's biological mother and her step-sister, who she considered her own, also showed her no mercy and while she cried in the washroom for help for several minutes, they continued to beat Eric so that he gave up his daughter's custody.
4) Earlier, Rosa tried to punch Eric and also manipulate him
After Rosa and Eric were married, a week into their honeymoon, they had a big fight, after which Rosa threw a punch at Eric, which she missed. She would also fight with Eric because of money problems.
Although he worked two jobs, she still used to be agitated with him all the time and even stopped him from meeting his friends and family. She even threatened to divorce Eric, mentally tortured him, did not let him see his newborn, and also played him out on multiple occasions as shown in the show.
After the events of January 7, 2009, after Rosa was arrested along with Mei, she lied to evade arrest. She told the detectives that she was in the house because of ongoing custody disputes and that Eric came to the house, threw her on the floor angrily, and then banged her head.
5) Lester’s voice recorded on the voicemail felt like something was horribly wrong with Selma Hill
Lester kept calling Sally, making many calls. Every time he called, her unanswered calls increased his fears.
His voice saved and recovered from Sally's voicemail validates his gut feeling that there was a severe problem with her. Viewers of the third episode of Worst Ex Ever will be able to relate to Lester's voice and sensation of terror as they hear him react to every unanswered call.
