Season 34, Episode 18 of Snapped: Women Who Kill, will focus on the murder of Alex Woodworth. Alex was stabbed to death on March 22, 2018. He was killed by his ex-girlfriend Ezra McCandless, as per CBS News' January 2022 report.
Ezra was taken into custody 2 weeks after Alex's body was found. Although she claimed that Alex attacked her first, after which she stabbed him in self-defense, the jury did not find her statements convincing enough, as all the evidence pointed towards her being the killer.
She was convicted of first-degree intentional homicide on November 1, 2019, for the murder of Alex Woodworth. On February 7, 2020, she was sentenced to life in prison with a possibility of parole after 50 years.

1) Ezra McCandless stabbed Alex Woodworth 16 times
As per CBS News' report, Alex Woodworth, McCandless’s ex-boyfriend was stabbed 16 times. His body was discovered on March 23, 2018, in a desolated road, partially hanging out of McCandless’s car. The autopsy confirmed that Alex was stabbed brutally in the neck, head, torso, and groin. The crime scene was bloodied and the lifeless body of the victim was found cold.
District Attorney Andrea Nodolf, told CBS News about how violently Alex was stabbed and said,
"I've been a prosecutor since 2001, and I've never seen anything this violent."
2) Ezra McCandless appeared freaked out and worried after Alex Woodworth's murder
After killing Alex Woodworth, the killer Ezra McCandless showed up at Don Sipple’s residence (a dairy farmer). She appeared to be in shock and was in a dilapidated state with no shoes on, blood around her mouth, and also in a muddied state. Describing the condition she was in, Don Sipple told CBS News:
"I had – had no idea. She had kind of like dried blood or something around her mouth … No shoes on. … Mud up to her knees. She was cold, and I think, I'm sure in shock. And … then she said, "I was assaulted." … Then I went and got on the phone and called 911."
3) Ezra McCandless had self-inflicted wounds
Initially, the killer Ezra McCandless, claimed that she was assaulted by her ex-boyfriend. She also has several wounds on her body and 'BOY' carved on her arm, which she said was done by her ex-boyfriend Alex Woodworth in rage. However, these wounds were later found to be self-inflicted and superficial cuts.
Detective Ryan Prok, who handled this case, told CBS News about the wounds and said:
"The wounds don't match … if you're grabbing a knife like she said she did … and you pull your hand across it, your hand is gonna be flayed open."
4) Ezra McCandless staged the crime
Alex Woodworth was killed with the knife that the killer Ezra McCandless took from her father’s house as per reports by CBS. As District Andrea Nodolf believes, the crime was staged and Alex was driven to an isolated place just so that he could be killed. Concerning that, she told CBS News:
"If you're actually attacked, you stab someone once or twice. And you run and get help....This was the knife that was found in the ditch outside of the farmer's house. … Ezra took this knife so she could get rid of Alex. … This is what she was gonna do to take back her life....She's tryin' to figure out what to do. … She's trying to cut herself. … She was clearly ...… to stage an attack."
5) Ezra McCandless took Alex Woodworth's phone
After stabbing Alex, Ezra McCandless took his phone while he was gravely injured and bleeding to death so that he could not contact anyone, to save him. District Attorney Andrea Nodolf talked about the same to CBS News and said:
"She took his phone. I mean, his only way of getting help, his only way of—people trying to find him. And then she deliberately, you know, smashed it into pieces so no one could find him."
