Episode two of Unsolved Mysteries, titled Body in the Basement, shows the bizarre and unsolved murder of Amanda Antoni, a Calgary resident. Unsolved Mysteries arrived on Netflix on July 31, 2024, adding five true-crime cases to its list.

Amanda was found dead by her husband Lee on his return from Saskatchewan. Lee found her body in the basement in a bloodied and horrific condition. There was no evidence or DNA recovered from the scene to aid the investigation.

To date, this mysterious homicide, which a few detectives speculate is an accident, remains unsolved. This case is now inactive until further leads are found.

"The bloodiest case" and 4 other chilling details about Amanda Antoni's death

1) Lee’s discovery of Amanda’s body terrified him

As seen in episode two of Unsolved Mysteries, Lee came to the house and looked for Amanda Antoni everywhere. However, when he couldn’t find Amanda in the rooms or the kitchen, he headed down to the basement.

The basement was her least favorite place in the house, as revealed by Lee in the docu-series. As Lee started going down the stairs, he found his beloved lying in a pool of blood. Terrified, he ran upstairs and called 911. As the emergency helpline asked him to confirm if she was still alive, Lee was terrified to go down the stairs once again to check.

When he touched Amanda’s body, it sent chills down his spine as she was cold and was also in a rigor mortis state, which was enough to understand that she breathed her last hours back.

2) Calgary Police Department called Amanda Antoni's death “the bloodiest”

SGT Trent Peterson, who was the first officer to reach the scene, was later assisted by his team. They found Amanda’s body on the floor. She had suffered head injuries and it was evident that she was struck by something. The right portion of her face was damaged.

The investigators found a significant amount of blood all over the crime scene. There was blood on the walls, on the floor, on her clothes, and even near the stairs. The gore was unimaginable and they called her death ‘the bloodiest death’ on Unsolved Mysteries.

3) Amanda’s phone was broken

Amanda’s phone and found broken at the crime scene. She last spoke to her husband on Saturday, after which he was unable to connect with her.

It is possible that Amanda’s phone was taken away by the assassin. Amanda could have tried seeking help by calling somebody, but it was too late as her phone could have been smashed by the assassin, who might have chased her down the basement and killed her.

4) There was no shred of evidence

Even though Amanda’s body was wrapped in blood and there were different patterns and stains of blood all over the crime scene, the forensics did not find a shred of evidence or DNA.

The foot impressions matched with Amanda’s and so did all the blood from the scene. There were no fingerprints on the doors too.

Is it possible that Amanda Antoni hurt herself or tripped down the stairs and later bled to death by choice or by accident? Or was there an intruder who committed the crime and cleared all the evidence later on?

Questions like these lurk in the minds of viewers after watching episode two of Unsolved Mysteries on Netflix.

5) Amanda’s death was ruled out as a possible accident

As shown on Unsolved Mysteries on Netflix, the behavioral science investigators ruled out Amanda Antoni's death as a possible accident after there were no secondary fingerprints or DNA discovered by the forensics at the crime scene.

Her family who do not believe in this theory reveal how she always would fight back in life. But if Amanda didn’t hurt herself, who hurt her? There were no signs of break-in or robbery.

Was the killer a familiar face who entered from the front door? Did Amanda stay in the basement trying to hide? Or what if she killed herself? If so, why? With the case now inactive, it is impossible to find answers to the questions listed above.
