5 chilling details about Billy Ray Brown's murder following Snapped on Oxygen
1) Billy Brown was found lying in a pool of blood
On June 21, 2000, Billy Brown was found dead on the floor next to his bed in a pool of blood. The police arrived at the bloody crime scene after receiving a 911 call from Brown's residence at 1280 Olive Drive in Green Sea, near Myrtle Beach.
There were trails of blood throughout the house and Billy's friend Ronnie McDowell, was found dead in a hallway bathroom. As per Billy's wife Connie, Ronnie was sleeping on their couch that night.
2) Connie Brown claimed that her husband was murdered by masked assailants
When the police arrived at the scene, Connie Brown and her father John Nealy were at the scene. Connie Brown claimed that two masked men broke into their house and stabbed and beat up her husband to death. She claimed that she fled the house with her three children and made the 911 call.
However, the police felt something strange when they talked to the children. They all said that they did not see anyone coming into the house and only told the cops what their mother asked them to.
3) The murder was premeditated by Connie's family
A breakthrough in the case came when Connie Brown revealed that one of the attackers was her brother Andy Nealy. Police located Andy Nealy's car near Jodis Washington's house. Melba Nealy (Andy and Connie's mother), and Jodis Washington were romantic partners. Renee Young, Melba's other daughter was also discovered by police in the residence.
Melba reported that she went to the Brown residence with her boyfriend, Jodis Washington, and her two kids, Andy and Renee Young. Billy Ray came outside when Connie answered the door, and Andy struck him with a stick.
As per Melba, Washington is said to have slashed Billy Ray's neck with a knife. This was a different account from what Connie and her kids told the police.
4) Billy's friend Ronnie was killed due to being in the wrong place at the wrong time
Ronnie McDowell was an unfortunate casualty when Jodis Washington and Andy Nealy murdered Billy Ray Brown. He woke up to the commotion and tried to run away, however, he was also murdered by Andy & Washington, since he witnessed them at the crime scene.
The events of the crime were eventually confessed to the police by Connie's sister Renee Young. She said that Connie knew about the plan and opened the door to lure Billy to her family.
5) Billy Ray Brown was allegedly abusive towards his family
The motive for the murder planned by Connie's family circled back to Billy's alleged abusive nature. Connie had confessed to her mother Melba that Billy Ray was abusive towards her and her children.
Melba wanted to teach Billy a lesson, and what was supposed to be only a physical assault by Jodis Washington and Andy, allegedly turned into a murder scene.
Connie Brown, along with her mother, her sister, and her brother were all sentenced to prison in connection to the murders. Jodis Washington was found not guilty of murder by a jury, as he convinced the jury that Renee allegedly lied about him being at the crime scene.
