Genesis Gibson, full name Genesis Yuliani Gibson Jaimes, was an escort listed on the Zona Divas website. She was slain on November 17, 2017. She was among the top 5 escorts on the site. To date, why she was killed remains a mystery. However, in 2019, justice was served as Daniel Uribe Reyes was sentenced to 45 years in prison for the murder of Genesis Gibson and 34 years for the murder of Wendy Vaneska Delima Cortes.

Caught in the Web: The Murders Behind Zona Divas, a new limited four-episode true-crime series on Netflix, depicts the terrifying femicides that occurred between 2017 and 2018, in which six female escorts were horrifyingly murdered within hotel rooms.

On September 5, 2024, Caught in the Web: The Murders Behind Zona Divas debuted on Netflix. The four episodes include audio and video recordings of the terror that lurked behind the escort site, testimonies from the relatives of the victims, and documentaries featuring the exploits of Zona Divas.

5 spine-chilling facts about Genesis Gibson's Murder

1) Genesis Gibson's manner of death was scarring

Genesis Gibson was strangled to death as shown on Caught in the Web: The Murders Behind Zona Divas. She had stab wounds on her abdomen too. The killer did not give her an easy death. He chose to torture Genesis Gibson before she was murdered. Her friends speculate that she was killed perhaps because she left working for Zona Divas and was an independent escort.

2) Genesis Gibson's family members were horrified after they found her body

When Genesis did not text her mother or call her, she eventually started worrying. Genesis Gibson had recently bought a house and was happy about the fact that her little daughter would finally have a place to stay even if something ever happened to her mother.

As shown in Caught in the Web: The Murders Behind Zona Divas, her first words after buying her house were -

"I can die in peace now as my daughter will have a place to live …inherit something…”

However, when Genesis’s mother could not get in touch with her, the family was asked to check the morgue. Her mother found her body in a morgue and recognized her with the help of the tattoos that she had on her neck. She couldn’t bear the sight of her daughter lying dead. She exclaimed in pain that -

"It’s my daughter. I don’t wanna see…"

When her cousin was asked to recognize her, even he could not believe the fact that Genesis Gibson was dead. Upon seeing her dead body, Genesis’s cousin said on Caught in the Web: The Murders Behind Zona Divas that -

"It was her body ..but that’s not my cousin."

3) Her body had words written on it

As shown and narrated in Caught in the Web: The Murders Behind Zona Divas, Genesis Gibson’s body had words written all over it by the killer, which stated what happened to her. Parts of her body were also tied up. She was also beaten severely, which made her face unrecognizable. After staying in the freezer for 2 days, her body became gray.

The manner of killing tells us that the assassin perhaps wanted to send the other girls of Zona Divas a message by saying that if anyone leaves, they will share the same fate as Genesis Gibson.

4) A man showed up with a gun at Genesis Gibson's funeral

A man brandishing a gun appeared at Genesis's funeral parlor, as documented in Caught in the Web: The Murders Behind Zona Divas. According to her relatives, they think he came to kill them. The glass door was rapped on by the armed stranger. The guy knocked and left a few minutes later. Gibson's family believes that someone may have been trying to kill them in the same way that they killed Genesis, or it may have been a thief.

5) A Santeria ritual had predicted Genesis's death beforehand

As per the show, a Santeria ritual performed on one of Genesis’s cousins revealed that Oshun the guardian angel said post-ritual that -

"I don’t want my daughter to do what she does anymore ….the day she does, I will get her suffering on Earth. I’ll take her with me …."

And as Genesis resumed work she did not return home ever after. Her cousin had warned her not to resume her services as an escort, however, Gibson had to return to what she did, to earn her bread. She did not pay heed to her cousin's comments and told him did nothing wrong and wasn't hurting anybody, and yet she lost her life to a senseless crime.
