1) Long Nguyen and Huong Ly were suffering from a declining commercial sewing business
Long Nguyen and Huong Ly were Vietnamese immigrants who moved to the United States during the early 2000s. The couple eventually got settled in the Vietnamese community in Arlington Texas and started a commercial sewing business.
This business was headed by their son-in-law Chau Tran, which began to grow over the next decade. However, in 2011, their business started to see a massive decline. This is the point when the couple decided to take the help of Voodo, to grow their business back again.
2) Long Nguyen and Huong Ly believed their business had been cursed
Voodo and witchcraft have been a common practice in Vietnamese folklore, since centuries, when people believed that it could directly affect financial growth and downfall. Long Nguyen and Huong Ly believed the reason for their dwindling business was due to evil eyes, and this is when the couple decided to consult a mystic.
The elderly couple saw an advertisement in the newspaper for a spiritual reader named Dephne Wright, who lived in Houston. The couple soon began to make frequent visits to Wright; however, their business kept on deteriorating. Soon, they were in debt.
3) The murder of Long Nguyen and Huong Ly was planned by their spiritual reader Dephne Wright
With every visit, Long Nguyen and Huong Ly started trusting the methods directed by Dephne Wright, however, the couple was quickly running out of money to pay her.
As per NBC DFW News, the prosecutors said that Miss Wright eventually came to an agreement with the couple, to charge them money on a credit-based system.
Though this looked like an opportunity for the elderly couple to feed more into their superstitions, Wright kept on benefitting from their beliefs. A time came when the couple went into debt of approximately $ 300,000, which they had to pay to their spiritual consultant.
According to CBS, this is when Dephne Wright hired two assassins, Bobby Guillory and his nephew Willie Guillory.

As per Investigator Diana Brown from Arlinton Police, when they entered the scene, there was an initial presumption, that the murder may have been caused by a gang attack. However, upon close scrutiny, it was found that the murder scene had been staged to distract the investigators.
There was a half-smoked joint, with a beer bottle wrapped in a bandana. The autopsy reports of Long Nguyen and Huong Ly, medical examiners found that the couple was forcefully hit with a blunt object.
However, the reason for their death was revealed to be suffocation, which mostly would have been caused due to duct tape, wrapped around the face.
Due to a lack of concrete evidence, the case had to be put on a hiatus, until October 12, 2015, when medical examiners retrieved a sample of DNA from the saliva on the marijuana joint.
As per Toronto Sun, when the DNA sample was run through records, it was found to belong to a teen named Willie Guillory, who was revealed to have committed the murders with his uncle Bobby Guillory.

Dephne Wright had already provided the assassins with a duplicate key to the elderly couple's residence.
