1) Lori Ruff shot herself in her car on her ex-husband, Jon Blake Ruff's driveway

Lori Ruff had been married to Jon Blakely Ruff after a year of courtship. However, the couple ended their marriage in 2010 owing to Lori's strange behavior. Blake moved to his parents' home in Longview leaving Lori with their daughter's custody as the mother and daughter settled in Leonard.

On December 24, 2010, Blake's father, Jon Ruff, opened his garage door to find a black Tahoe parked in the driveway. According to The Seattle Times, Lori was found inside shot to death. Lori ended her life with a self-inflicted gunshot to the head.


2) The Ruffs visited Lori's residence to find the place in total disarray

After Lori's death, the Ruffs visited her place of residence to understand the event. Lori had been exceptionally secretive about her past and the Ruffs wanted to know who she was. Upon arrival in Leonard, they found her living space almost unlivable.

There were dishes piled up, dirty laundry was left all around and the baby's bed had been soiled. The room had trash bags full of shredded paper with scribbles on them.


3) Lori had scribbled incoherent ramblings all over her house

Lori Ruff had left behind an 11-page suicide note addressed to her ex-husband, Jon Blakely Ruff, and a letter addressed to her daughter. The Seattle Times reported that Blake was referred to as "my wonderful husband" while Lori left the note for her daughter to be opened on her 18th birthday.

The authorities looked into the letters and the police report subsequently reported,

“These were ramblings from a clearly disturbed person.”

There were no revelations about Lori Ruff's identity and she remained a mystery after her death.


4) Lori was originally born as Kimberly Maria McLean

The Ruffs discovered bits and pieces of her past when they arrived at Lori's home in Leonard. The authorities found the birth certificate of Becky Sue Turner after which one of their relatives confirmed that Turner had passed away in a house fire when she was 2 years of age.

Among the documents, they also found the judge's ruling of a name change to Lori Erica Kennedy. A nuclear physicist specializing in forensic genealogy, Colleen Fitzpatrick, began working on the case in 2013 and used genetic genealogy phasing techniques to find out Lori's real identity - Kimberly Maria McLean.


5) Kimberly took the identity of Becky Sue Turner before she changed her name to Lori Erica Kennedy

Kimberly McLean was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and had moved away from home in 1986 to King of Prussia. She found it difficult to adjust to her new family after her parents, James and Deanne McLean divorced. Kimberly got hold of Becky Sue Turner's birth certificate and assumed her identity in May 1988.

Kimberly got hold of a state ID card in Idaho and had her name changed to Lori Erica Kennedy in Dallas on July 5, 1988. As Lori, she changed her birth date to July 18, 1969, and got a new social security number. She also completed her education in business administration at the University of Texas at Arlington.
