Matthew Perry, who was known as the star who lit up everyone's world with his great acting and comedy in F.R.I.E.N.D.S, passed away on October 2023, at the age of 54. Though foul play was suspected from the very start in this very secretive death of the prolific actor, it was only yesterday that the case moved forward significantly, and five people were arrested in connection to the same.
According to the latest reports, Matthew Perry died from an overdose of ketamine, or more precisely, "acute effects of ketamine." While initial reports claimed that other factors like drowning and coronary artery disease also played a role in his death, the ketamine overdose is currently been seen as the primary reason for the actor's untimely death.
As the case progresses further, let us take a look into some of the mysterious facts surrounding this death.
5 chilling facts about Matthew Perry's death
1) Matthew Perry was found unresponsive in his Los Angeles home
In what can be considered a shocking development around the globe, Matthew Perry was found unresponsive in his hot tub at his home in Los Angeles. What followed was a period of mystery where fans speculated foul play but nothing concrete about the cause of death was revealed for some time.
He was pronounced dead at around 4 PM the same day.
2) Over a month later, ketamine usage came to the fore
On December 15, 2023, nearly a month and a half after the actor was found unresponsive in his home, the cause of his death was revealed to be "acute effects of ketamine." Other factors that contributed to this included the effects of buprenorphine, drowning, and coronary artery disease.
Since then, there has been an investigation into this ketamine usage that took the actor's life.
3) Matthew Perry took ketamine-assisted psychotherapy at the time of his death but there was more to this
While it was established that Perry was already under ketamine-assisted psychotherapy at the time of his death, it was discovered that this ketamine was not enough to match the one found during his autopsy. Rather, he was taking ketamine from other sources as well, including from Jasveen Sangha, also dubbed the Ketamine Queen.
4) The people closest to Perry reportedly took advantage of his addictions to sell him drugs
Among the five people arrested for the death of Matthew Perry, there are two of his doctors and his live-in assistant, who all reportedly engaged in a scheme to get rich by manipulating Perry's substance abuse history.
Perry suffered a long while from substance abuse and had even been an advocate against the same. However, his assistant, doctors, and drug dealers helped him get back to the destructive habit that eventually killed the actor.
5) The investigation into Perry's death has reportedly exposed an underground network of drug business in Hollywood
According to US attorney Martin Estrada, there is an immense underground network in Hollywood that involves many individuals including Jasveen Sangha, the Ketamine Queen. Estrada said in a statement:
"That investigation has revealed a broad underground criminal network responsible for distributing large quantities of ketamine to Mr Perry and others...This network included a live-in assistant, various go-betweens, two medical doctors and a major source of drug supply known as, quote: ‘the Ketamine Queen’."
He further added to emphasize their involvement, saying:
"They knew what they were doing was wrong. They knew what they were doing was risking great danger to Mr Perry, but they did it anyways. In the end, these defendants were more interested in profiting off Mr Perry than caring for his wellbeing."
Though there have been no further updates about the five arrested individuals, which include Jasveen Sangha, another drug dealer, Perry's live-in assistant, and two of his doctors, we expect to learn more about it soon. Stay tuned for updates.
