My Wife, My Abuser: The Secret Footage is a factual documentary on Channel 5 that shows how Sheree Spencer, an East Yorkshire resident, abused her husband Richard Spencer for almost 20 years.

1) Sheree abused Richard Spencer for more than 20 years.

Richard Spencer was abused for over two decades by his wife, Sheree Spencer. Sheree not only hit and threatened him several times regularly but also spat at him and punched him. Reportedly, on occasion, she even held a knife to his throat. Richard Spencer submitted 43 images as evidence that showed him badly injured, with many bruises, scars, swelling marks, and more.

Regarding the abuse, Richard spoke up after his wife's conviction in 2023 and said in the documentary:

“Sheree’s abuse towards me evolved and escalated over time; she used repeated acts of physical assault, threats, verbal abuse, and humiliation to punish and exercise control over me."

Reportedly, Richard Spencer had a permanently disfigured ear after his wife once attacked him with a wine bottle. To cover his bruises, Richard would often use cosmetics so that no one would know the truth about the abuse that he was facing.

In the documentary, Richard revealed why he kept the abuse hidden and said:

"The abuse was hidden from the outside world, including friends and family. Sheree manipulated me into believing that I was a responsible and willing participant in the abuse."

3) Sheree Spencer tried to falsely blame Richard Spencer

Sheree was caught after she called a family friend and told her that Richard was intoxicated and might harm her. However, that was not the case, and in 2021, Richard finally opened up to his friend about the ongoing domestic abuse.

He soon reported her to the police and revealed the truth. When Sheree was arrested, she was under the influence of alcohol. Reportedly, when the police interrogated her, she lied and said that her husband wanted to kill her, which was again a false claim.

4) Nanny Cam footage showed Sheree Spencer holding a knife

In 2015, the couple placed a Nanny Cam in their six-bedroom property. Later on, this camera captured a disturbing video. It showed Sheree pointing a knife at her husband. Richard also used this camera to discreetly film his wife's drunken abuse. According to reports, she would yell at him and taunt him, which was also captured on camera.
