5 chilling details about the Mysterious Mutilations as depicted in Unsolved Mysteries Volume 5

Unsolved Mysteries, Volume 5, was released on Netflix on October 2, 2024. Volume 5, episode 3, is on the numerous animal mutilations that horrified and left numerous ranchers with scars all across the world.

Who was responsible for these mutilations is still a mystery. Some believe it to be an alien intervention, some believe it to be a demonic cult, and still others believe it to be a government covert program.

In an attempt to uncover a lead, the case of the mass animal mutilations will be revisited in Unsolved Mysteries episode 3, titled Mysterious Mutilations. The synopsis for the same reads as

"For decades, a wave of cattle mutilations executed with near-surgical precision has plagued the US. Are extraterrestrials behind these gruesome acts?"

1) The Heifer was mutilated inhumanely

A heifer began acting strangely in early June 2021, according to Mt. Anderson, the ranch owner in Grant County, Oregon, who made this revelation on Unsolved Mysteries. Even after trailing the heifer for a couple of miles, she still stayed behind.

Mt. Anderson returned to check on the heifer the next morning and found it dead and mutilated on her right side. Her hide was pulled back, the tongue was extracted, a clean cut was made behind her shoulders, and her face was skinned back.

Recollecting his horrific experience of that day, Mt. Anderson revealed on the show that:

"I was taken aback . I’ve never seen anything like that ever ….there was no noticeable blood, no sign of a struggle ….”

2) Mat Carter discovered his cow mutilated and was shocked.

In August 2020, Mat Carter, a different rancher in Eastern Oregon, discovered a dead cow on the southern portion of the ranch. The cow was dismembered. Her tongue had disappeared, her upper lip had been severed, and her intestines were visible between her back legs. However, there was no hint of resistance.

Following the mutilation, Carter expressed how terrified he was. On Unsolved Mysteries, he stated:

"When I was sure myself that it was a mutilated cow, I thought. Well, it’s pretty close to home now. It’s happened to me, which you never think is going to you know, until it does . ..”

3) The murderer left no footprints or other signs on the snow.

As shown in Unsolved Mysteries volume 5, episode 3, a dead bull was discovered in 2020. There was blood, but there were no tracks in the snow that covered everything. Following their notification, the authorities examined the location but were unable to locate any footprints. Though no one ever believed it was a predator assault or kill, the authorities considered it strange that there was no evidence.

4) The assassin removed the cow's reproductive organs.

Another rancher discovered his cow lying beneath a Juniper tree in July 2020. It appeared to be a sick cow from a distance. The cow's reproductive tracts and tongue had vanished. On the show, Deputy Jeremiah Holmes, who assessed the above-mentioned crime scene, revealed that:

"…It was eerie. I have never seen a cow with its heat off the ground in a rigor mortis-like state ever …”

5) Another cow's vulva was severed.

Darwin Hodges in 2019, found a healthy cow, mutilated, in the middle of the field. The lips, cheek, and tongue of the cow were cut. The vulva of the cow was cut out of the cow in a perfect circle.

Hodges revealed on the show Unsolved Mysteries that:

"…straight lines, no jagged, ragged. I mean just to a T . I thought, Jesus Christ, what the hell happened? And the more you look at it, the more bizarre it comes….”
