Annie Lois Sims was shot and killed by her grandson, Christian Sims, in December 2014. Sims and his accomplice, his girlfriend Ashley Morrison, were taken into custody just two days later and found guilty of the murder. This crime shocked both Texas residents and law enforcement.

Five disturbing and important facts about Annie Lois Sims' murder

1) Christian Sims killed his grandmother when he was just 16

As revealed in I Am a Killer, 16-year-old Christian Sims went to Annie Lois Sims’s home in December 2014 and lured her out of the house. As soon as she came out and looked at Christian, he shot her and killed her.

After the shooting, Christian and his girlfriend Ashley, fled the scene in Christian’s grandmother's car and went to a motel in Oklahoma, which was 209 miles away from the scene of the crime. A day after committing the crime, the couple were arrested.

2) A horrific crime scene

In December 2014, four hours after Annie Lois Sims was killed, her husband discovered her dead. She was shot using a shotgun multiple times and the crime scene was reportedly covered in blood.

As Christian revealed on the show, he wanted to kill both his grandparents, however, he only managed to kill one of them. Here is how he described the encounter, which he now regrets, in I Am A Killer:

"I ended up walking to her (Annie Lois Sims). So I was thinking, “Well, she may still be alive. So I put another one in the back of her head. I fu*ked up……”

3) From an early age, Christian considered killing his grandparents

In I Am a Killer, Christian revealed that he had thoughts of killing his grandparents since he was a kid. Christian began living with his grandparents after his mother’s boyfriend, Anthony Trent Barbour, was sent to prison for physically and se*ually abusing him when he was 8 years old.

Christian, however, did not like living with his grandparents. As he said on the show:

“I hated it. It was not enjoyable...”

Christian further said:

“So, when I was a kid, my grandfather brought home a shotgun. And I remember the first thought that went through my head was, “Damn, it would be so much easier in life if I were to just kill her (Annie Lois Sims) and get this over with... it was just a thought.”

4) Christian alleged that he was se*ually abused by Annie Lois Sims

In the episode, Christian revealed that he was se*ually, mentally, and physically abused by his grandma Annie Lois Sims. She inflicted pain on him just as Trent Barbour did, but it was far more severe.

In, I am a killer, Christian stated:

“… You are not supposed to speak ill of the dead, but my grandmother was definitely the worst, most poisonous person I’ve ever met. My grandmother mentally, physically, and se*ually abused me. She would come in late at night... instead of beating on me and stuff like that, she’s trying to cause me pain in other ways. She would, uh, grab my privates and twist... ”

These allegations were not brought up by Christian Sims earlier, as his case did not go to trial. He pleaded guilty instead and was sentenced to 35 years behind bars for first-degree murder.

5) Ashley Morrison was also sentenced to 30 years in prison

Initially, Christian's girlfriend Ashley Morrison had denied any involvement in the crime and also refused a plea agreement. But when her case went to trial on July 26, 2017, the jury found her guilty, and she was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Although she appealed her conviction in 2019, she later decided to plead guilty to second-degree murder, and on March 4, 2020, she was sentenced to 30 years in prison, a second time.
