UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson's murder on December 4, 2024, will be replayed in the upcoming episode of Manhunt on ABC. The alleged gunman, Luigi Mangione, who is in custody for Thompson's murder and is scheduled to appear in court on December 19, 2024, has become a hot topic in the media.
The upcoming special of Manhunt is titled Manhunt: Luigi Mangione & the CEO Murder - A Special Edition of 20/20. It will air on ABC on December 19, 2024, at 10:01 PM ET. The logline for the same reads as:

1) The shooter was "lying in wait"
As per reports by PIX II, the assassin who shot CEO Brian Thompson was "lying in wait" after coming to the hotel five minutes before Thompson could arrive there for an investors meeting. NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch believes the gunman "appeared to wait for his intended target."
After Thomson arrived at the Hilton, the killer came out from behind a vehicle and shot him several times, after which he made an escape from the scene on an e-bike.
2) "Delay," "deny," and "depose" were written on the ammunition
As per reports by PIX II, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch believes that the alleged killer, Luigi Mangione, has had ill will towards corporate America, which could be the motive behind Brian Thompson's killing. At a news conference on December 4, 2024, Tisch also described the shooting as a "premeditated, preplanned, targeted attack ."
At the crime scene, the ammunition that was recovered had the words "delay," "deny," and "depose" embedded on it, according to PIX II. The three words form a phrase frequently used by critics of the health business in which the victim was a CEO.
3) Brian Thompson was threatened before his murder
As per reports by NBC, Thompson's wife Paulette Thompson revealed that the CEO had received some threats before he was slain. She told NBC about the same and said that some people were threatening her husband before the assassination took place.
Paulette Thompson's statement reads as:
"I [Paulette Thompson] just know that he [Brian Thompson] said there were some people that had been threatening him."
4) Thomson was shot in the back and leg
According to PIX II reports, 50-year-old Minessota resident Brian Thomson was shot in the back and leg on December 4, 2024, around 7 am EST, near the Hilton Hotel. He was taken to a hospital immediately but was declared dead upon arrival. The firearm used to slay Thompson had a suppressor on it.
There was a witness at the scene who was next to the victim when the shooting took place. However, he has not been identified to date.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg issued a statement addressing this case and said:
"This type of premeditated, targeted gun violence cannot and will not be tolerated, and my office has been working day in and day out to bring the defendant to justice.”
5) The alleged killer Luigi Mangione has waved extradition
The alleged killer of Brian Thomson, Luigi Mangione, has been charged with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree murder, among other charges, as per The Guardian.
According to NBC, Mangione, who was going to be extradited to Pennsylvania to face charges, waived extradition and was flown to New York instead on an NYPD helicopter. He will appear at a court for a hearing on December 19, 2024.
As per CNN, Mangione's lawyer, Karen Friedman Agnifilo, was seen entering the court in Manhattan on December 19, 2024, alongside her husband, Marc Agnifilo, who is also a defense lawyer and has represented Sean Combs (Diddy) recently.
