Dianna D’Aiello was 9.5 months when she was brutally attacked in her Riverside, California home on September 30, 1979. The mother-to-be was left with a devastating head injury while her husband, Kevin Green had stepped out of the house to get them some food. While the 20-year-old managed to survive the attack, her unborn child as the attack detached her placenta.

1) Dianna D’Aiello was found beaten in her home on September 30, 1979
Dianna D'Aiello was found in her house in California on the night of September 30, 1979, with a wound to her head that looked like she had been shot. Dianna, who was 9.5 months pregnant at the time of the attack had suffered a blow to her head when her husband had gone out to get them some food.
After Dianna's husband, Kevin Green, found her on the floor of their house, he took her to a hospital where it was confirmed that she had blunt force trauma to her head.
Before the attack, 20-year-old Dianna and Kevin had a few friends over and were socializing through the evening, according to their neighbors.
2) D’Aiello was two weeks overdue and 9.5 months into her pregnancy
Dianna D'Aiello was around 18 or 19 when she met Kevin Green, who was a part of the US Marine Corps. When Kevin met Dianna, he was still married to another woman, who was pregnant. However, he divorced his first wife before marrying Dianna and by March 1979, she was pregnant with their first child. They were going to have a baby girl, whom they had already named Chantel Marie.
When Dianna was attacked in September 1979, she was two weeks past her due date and she and Kevin were anxious about their child's birth. However, when Dianna was attacked, her placenta detached and while doctors performed an emergency C-section on her, they were unable to save the baby.
According to The Cinemaholic, after the attack, Dianna D’Aiello was unable to recall any of the events around it. She was diagnosed with amnesia and aphasia at the hospital.
3) Kevin Green mentioned seeing a man outside his home
Kevin Green and Dianna D’Aiello had had friends over at their house in the evening before Kevin went out to get them some food. However, when he returned to the house, he discovered his pregnant wife with a wound to her head.
It is worth noting that before Kevin left to get the food, he had stepped out once previously with a friend to get cannabis and alcohol for them.
After the friends left, he went to a nearby fast food joint and left the kitchen door open so he could easily slip back into the house. However, after the attack, Green recalled seeing a man standing outside their house when he left to go to the fast food joint. He recalled seeing the man still standing outside their house when he returned home.
4) Dianna D’Aiello claimed that Kevin had s*xually assaulted her
After she was taken to the hospital, Dianna D’Aiello was diagnosed with amnesia and aphasia, as she couldn't recall the details of the assault. While Kevin was questioned and his alibi checked out, investigators began suspecting him when Dianna seemed to remember some parts of the attack six months later.
Dianna reportedly revealed that Kevin had issues with substance abuse, and alleged that when he returned home that night, he tried to initiate s*x. However, she said that when she refused, he allegedly hit her with a metal key.
5) The serial killer, Gerald Parker, confessed to attacking Diana in June 1996
Kevin Green was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and second-degree murder of Chantel Marie. He was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 15 years. While he maintained innocence throughout the trial, his appeal was turned down in 1982 by the Supreme Court of the State of California.
However, in June 1996, a serial killer named Gerald Parker confessed to Dianna D’Aiello's attack. He had been charged with five murders and several assault charges in the same area. Finally, Kevin Green's conviction was overturned and he was declared a free man.
