5 key details surrounding Sal Shabazz's murder, ahead of Feuds Turned Fatal on ID
1) Sal Shabazz was shot several times
Reportedly, on April 7, 2021, Sal came back home from the hotel, where his wife and kids were staying the night, at around 1:00 am. He was charging his phone on the couch and talking to his wife Jacqueline. Around 2:13, someone knocked at the door. When Sal Shabazz went to open the door, his wife heard multiple gunshots through the phone, after which she dialed 911.
When the authorities arrived at the scene, they found Sal deceased on his doorstep. He was shot four times, of which two shots were fired in the head.
2) The bullet casings found at the crime scene matched with Jeremy Pettway’s gun
Reportedly, 4 empty cartridge casings (.380) were recovered from the crime scene. While investigating the crime, the casings matched with one of the prime suspect's guns. The prime suspect Jeremy Todd Pettway had given the gun to his friend Malone, to hide or dispose of it.
The murder weapon was later recovered from under Malone’s bed and forensics matched it with the casings at the crime scene, thereby determining that Pettway’s gun was used to kill Sal.
3) There was an altercation between Sal Shabazz's wife and her co-worker Tashara Jackson, right before Sal’s murder
Reportedly, Jacqueline (Sal’s wife ) had an altercation with her co-worker Tashara Jackson right before Sal Shabazz's murder. The fight happened in the parking lot of a restaurant. Reportedly, Sal pointed a taster at other people near the restaurant, while his wife and Jackson fought. Additionally, as per Jackson’s claims, Sal kicked her during the altercation.
3) Sal Shabazz’s wife, Jacqueline, and Tashara Jackson had multiple altercations in the past too
Reportedly, on April 1, 2021, Jacqueline had an altercation with Jackson, after which she slashed one of the tires of Jackson’s SUV. Next up, on April 6, 2024, when Jacqueline returned from a mini vacation, she found her car tires slashed and also in a dilapidated state with 'wh*re' written on it. There was also a candy bar inserted in the fuel tank of the car.
5) Tashara Jackson was charged with first-degree murder, although she didn’t pull the trigger
Although the evidence pointed at Pettway being the one who pulled the trigger that killed Sal, the jurors believed that Tashara Jackson, who had an ongoing feud with Sal’s wife had a motive to kill him.
Therefore, she was charged with first-degree murder and murder conspiracy counts as per reports by Yahoo News. She was sentenced to life in prison in 2022, based on the traffic cam CCTV footage and the text messages between the two accused in the case that surfaced after Sal’s homicide.
