Rory Gilmore, played by Alexis Bledel, was the main character on the popular show Gilmore Girls from 2000 to 2007. Bledel's portrayal of the smart, ambitious teenager even won her a Satellite Award. But when the show came back in 2016 with Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, Rory's storyline didn't sit well with some fans.

Rory's entitled attitude, her cheating ways in relationships, her lack of direction and responsibility, her thin skin when it comes to criticism, and her failure to show any growth have turned her from a fan favorite to a character people can't stand.

She used to be someone we all wanted to see succeed, but now her flaws are just too glaring to ignore as Gilmore Girls goes on.

5 top reasons why Gilmore Girls fans on Reddit and elsewhere hate Rory Gilmore

1) Rory's infidelity and unfaithfulness in relationships

Rory has a habit of cheating in her relationships on Gilmore Girls. In The Break-Up, Part 2 (episode 3.07), she hooks up with her married ex-boyfriend Dean, saying he's still hers.

Later in the Netflix revival, she does the same with her engaged ex-boyfriend Logan in Summer (episode 4.02). This pattern of infidelity doesn't paint Rory in the best light and sets a bad example for young viewers.

2) Rory's sense of entitlement and privilege

As Rory gets older, you can see her entitled side coming out more. In episode 4.07, Tippecanoe and Taylor, Too, she just assumes her grandparents will always bail her out financially, no matter what mistakes she makes.

She also acts entitled when she gets mad that someone is studying under "her" tree at Yale. This happens in the Gilmore Girls episode titled Nag Hammadi Is Where They Found the Gnostic Gospels (episode 4.05).

3) Rory's lack of responsibility and direction

As Rory gets older, it's becoming more obvious that she's not sure what she wants to do with her life. In episode 5.07, You Jump, I Jump, Jack, she randomly decides to drop out of Yale and move in with her grandparents without thinking things through.

In the revival, she's still figuring out her career path, passing on a job for a shot at a fellowship that doesn't pan out in Summer (episode 4.01). Rory's lack of direction and reluctance to plan make her come across as unfocused and inexperienced.

4) Rory's inability to handle criticism

Rory has always been applauded for being smart and successful in school, but she has a hard time dealing with criticism. In episode 6.13, Blame Booze and Melville, when Lorelai calls her out for hooking up with a married guy, Rory decides to escape to Europe instead of facing the music.

In the episode Tippecanoe and Taylor, Too (4.07), Rory's dream job senior criticizes her skills, leading her to steal a yacht and drop out of college. Rory's struggle with criticism and habit of avoiding problems paint her as a not-so-likable character.

5) Rory's lack of growth and development

Rory's made some pretty questionable decisions, like hooking up with a married Dean, dropping out of Yale, swiping a yacht, and carrying on her cheating ways by getting with engaged Logan in the revival.

She just can't seem to learn from her mistakes, which doesn't exactly make her the most sympathetic character.

Rory's lack of growth and development makes her character feel stuck and hard to connect with for a lot of viewers.

You can watch Gilmore Girls on Netflix and see for yourself if Rory is a character you like or not.
