Dark Desire, Obsession, and three other shows like Fake Profile that are gripping and highly bingeable

1) Dirty John (2018)

In Fake Profile, Camila thought she finally met the one when she first came across Fernando but the dream shattered after she found out the truth. The same is the case with the female leads in this true crime anthology show which has two seasons and 16 episodes.

Season one chronicles the relationship between Debra Newell (Connie Britton), an interior designer, and John Meehan (Eric Bana) a doctor she falls in love with. The second season follows Betty Broderick (Amanda Peet), whose life takes a drastic turn after she gets married to her high school sweetheart, Dan Broderick (Christian Slater).

Dirty John, similar to Fake Profile, keeps the audience glued to the screen because there is so much happening at any given moment. Since the show is based on real events, it is far more intense and shocking than Fake Profile. It also helps that the actors portray the characters with such conviction that it often doesn't even feel like acting which helps boost audience connection.

Where to watch: Episodes of Dirty John are available on Netflix.

2) Dark Desire (2020)

Like Fake Profile, this show boasts an exciting blend of romance, drama and suspense (Image via Netflix)

Fake Profile's Fernando Castell aka Miguel Estévez faces the repercussions of his affair when Camila bulldozes into his life. The protagonist of Dark Desire Alma Quintana Solares, played by Maite Perroni, experiences something similar.

In the show containing two seasons and 33 episodes, Alma is a college professor who becomes intimate with a younger student Darío, played by Alejandro Speitzer. However, her moment of weakness threatens her family and career when it becomes obvious that Darío has ulterior motives.

Dark Desire thrives on its solid screenplay that keeps the audience guessing. The well-developed characters are brought alive by the talented cast who can keep the audience invested in their lives. This is the kind of show that will keep viewers hooked from beginning to end.

Where to watch: Dark Desire is available for streaming on Netflix.

3) Behind Her Eyes (2021)

It is hard to stop watching Fake Profile because the tension never ebbs away. Based on Sarah Pinborough's novel, Behind Her Eyes also boasts of a complex storyline that is hard to predict.

With six episodes, Behind Her Eyes centers around Simona Brown's character Louise Barnsley. She is a single mother who finds herself falling for her charismatic new boss, Dr. David Ferguson, portrayed by Tom Bateman. However, things get dangerously complicated when she strikes up a friendship with David's wife, Adele (Eve Hewson).

This well-made psychological thriller draws the audience in with its intricate storyline complemented by complex characters. Both Brown and Hewson nail the inner turmoil that their characters are experiencing. Their chemistry really blooms in the intense scenes where they are forced to play mind games with each other.

Where to watch: Behind Her Eyes can be viewed on Netflix.

4) Fatal Attraction (2023)

In Fake Profile, Miguel Estévez is only too eager to have fun without thinking of the aftermath but he is forced to face reality when Camila barges into his life. The consequences of an affair also bear heavily on Joshua Jackson's Dan Gallagher in Fatal Attraction.

Based on the 1987 film, this show contains eight episodes in total. Dan Gallagher is the head of the Major Crimes Bureau. He enters into an intimate relationship with Lizzy Caplan's Alex Forrest, who has recently joined the Victim Services Bureau. However, when Dan decides to end things, Alex goes to great lengths to get her way.

The best thing about the narrative of the show is how it focuses on the human psyche and how flawed people can be. It is also interesting how it presents different sides of the story so that the audience can fully understand the different motivations of each character.

Where to watch: Episodes of Fatal Attraction can be streamed on Prime Video and Apple TV+.

5) Obsession (2023)

Fake Profile showcases that becoming too attached to someone can also have its downsides. The same theme is also present in Obsession which stars Richard Armitage and Charlie Murphy in the lead. Armitage plays William Farrow who becomes involved with his son's fiancée, Anna (Murphy). When the obsession starts to grow, William's career and personal life start spiraling.

William's character is highly intelligent but that doesn't mean that he is sorted emotionally. It is interesting to see how his straight-laced life begins to unravel when he starts to act on impulse instead of relying on logic.

The highlight of the show has to be the sizzling chemistry between Armitage and Murphy, both flawed characters but interesting enough for the audience to sit up and pay attention whenever they come onscreen.

Where to watch: Obsession, containing four episodes, is available on Netflix.

Like Fake Profile, these gripping shows feature layered storytelling that is elevated by passionate romances, dramatic plot progressions, and shocking twists.
