7 best shows to watch if you liked Fallout

Based on a video game franchise of the same name, Fallout is a post-apocalyptic action-drama, created by Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Starring Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, Kyle MacLachlan, and others, the show is set after 2077, when a devastating nuclear war between China and the United States, destroys society.

Survivors now live in fallout bunkers, known as ‘Vaults’. But there is a real reason behind the building of these bunkers that a young woman, named Lucy, decides to uncover when her father is kidnapped by raiders. She joins forces with a squire and a bounty hunter, who have their agendas.

The show was a huge success among fans and critics alike and was nominated multiple times for the Emmy Awards. The show’s acting, visuals, witty humor, and faithfulness to the game have been appreciated.

Silo, The Last of Us and other shows similar to the Fallout

1) Halo - Amazon Video

Based on a video game franchise of the same name, Halo is set in the 26th century. The series is about an ongoing war between the United Nations Space Command (UNSC) and an alien Covenant out to destroy humanity. In between all this, there is a cybernetically enhanced soldier, Master Chief, who leads a team of the UNSC against the aliens. But after touching a mysterious amulet, he begins to have visions.

The show is similar to Fallout as both have been developed from video games and are set in a futuristic society. Though Halo has veered away a bit from video games, it still has great visual effects and action sequences.


2) The 100 - Amazon Video

Developed by Jason Rothenberg, The 100 is a post-apocalyptic sci-fi show that is based on a novel series by Kass Morgan. After a nuclear war destroys society, the only humans remaining are the survivors in the 12 international space stations, named the Ark. After 100 years, they now decide to send juvenile criminals back to Earth to see if the planet is habitable again.

The show was praised for its suspense, pace, and acting. The seven-season show aired from 2014 to 2020 and is similar to Fallout as both the shows explore a post-apocalyptic world and touch on themes of survival and conflict. The show is now considered a cult classic.


3) Jeremiah - Amazon Video

Created by J. Michael Straczynski and starring Luke Perry and Malcolm-Jamal Warner, this post-apocalyptic action-drama is set in 2021, 15 years after a plague killed almost everyone over the age of thirteen. The story revolves around Jeremiah, a loner who is searching for the Valhalla Sector—a place where his father might still be alive.

Along the way, he joins forces with Kurdy and Mr. Smith. While both Jeremiah and Fallout deal with a post-apocalyptic society, Jeremiah’s uniqueness is that it focusses on how children survived the apocalypse and now have to grow up themselves. The show has two seasons and aired from 2002 to 2004.

Based on a novel by Emily St. John Mandel, Station Eleven is a dystopian series that stars Mackenzie Davis, Lori Petty, Daniel Zovatto, and others. The show is set 20 years after a flu pandemic led to the collapse of civilization. A group of survivors sustain themselves by being travelling performers but get into trouble when they meet a violent cult, with a mysterious leader.

Even though the show veers away from its source material, it has been critically acclaimed and was nominated several times for the Emmys. The show is similar to Fallout as both of them are set in a post-apocalyptic future. But the show uniquely also concentrates on themes like art, culture, and their importance in reminding humans of their past.


5) The Last of Us - Amazon Video

Another show that is based on a video game franchise, The Last of Us stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey and is a post-apocalyptic drama that is set in an ongoing pandemic. After a fungal infection turns humans into zombies, most of humanity is wiped out. But a smuggler, Joel (Pedro), takes along a 14-year-old girl, Ellie (Bella), who is immune to the infection.

While Ellie may hold the key to bringing the world out of destruction, Joel has to make sure that she suffers no harm. The show has been praised for its faithful adaptation, acting, and production design. And won several Emmy awards. It is similar to Fallout, as both the shows are video game adaptations and are set in a post-apocalyptic world.


6) Silo - Apple TV+

Based on a series of novels by Hugh Howey, this sci-fi dystopian show is based on the premise that 140 years after an apocalypse, the surviving people are now living in a massive underground silo. The silo functions like a society and has its own rules and regulations that people must adhere to.

A murder and unexplained rules force an engineer, played by Rebecca Ferguson, to take matters into her own hands and find out the real reason behind these regulations. The show also stars Tim Robbins, Rashida Jones, and others. It is a dystopian show like Fallout and shows society living underground. But Silo also delves into themes like mystery, politics, and suspense.


7) Into the Badlands - Amazon Video

Starring Daniel Wu, Orla Brady, Emily Beecham, Nick Frost, and others, Into the Badlands is set in a post-apocalyptic world like Fallout and deals with similar themes like a new societal order and conflict. But apart from that, the show veers away by adding martial arts and sci-fi.

The show is based 500 years after a deadly war and only electricity and vehicles have survived. But the society now has a feudal territory known as the ‘Badlands’ that is run by barons. Amidst all this, a warrior and a young boy journey through this land to seek enlightenment. The show is noted for its martial arts sequences and Daniel Wu’s competent performance.


Viewers who love different kinds of post-apocalyptic drama can go through the list and choose a show of their liking.
