City of God: The Fight Rages On is a follow-up crime drama of the 2002 acclaimed movie—City of God, or Cidade de Deus—the Brazilian TV show adapted by Bráulio Mantovani. Directed by Kátia Lund and Fernando Meirelles, the show is set 20 years after the film's events.

It stars Alexandre Rodrigues from the first film as he reprises his role as Wilson ‘Rocket’ Rodrigues, who comments how nothing has changed in these two decades. Back in the Rio de Janeiro favela as a photojournalist, he is once again caught between the violence of police, militia, criminal gangs, and the corruption of politicians.

City of God: The Fight Rages On looks into the effect this has on the residents and touches on themes like the exploitation of trauma. The crime drama premiered on August 25 and is a six-part series. With the first episode out, the story of Alexandre’s favela continues. While viewers wait for fresh episodes and the series finale of the crime drama, they can go through this list of seven similarly-themed crime drama shows to binge in the meantime.
