The streaming giant Netflix is known for drawing in a record amount of viewership with its catchy and binge-worthy shows. Over the past few years, many of Netflix's series have generated massive hype, giving birth to countless pop culture memes and discussions.
Establishing itself as a viewership juggernaut, the streaming company releases a list of the most watched shows and movies every week. The list is based on the number of hours watched and completed viewing equivalents in the first 91 days of the show on the platform.
Below is a list of seven of Netflix's most-watched TV shows of all time, based on Netflix’s rating list. The list takes into account the viewership as of September 22, 2024.

1) Wednesday: Season 1
Based on the character created by Charles Addams, Wednesday is a gothic, coming-of-age, supernatural show that stars Jenna Ortega in the titular role. Executively produced and co-directed by Tim Burton, the series revolves around Wednesday Addams, who is sent to a new school and finds it difficult to adjust to her peers because of her cold personality and queer interests.
In the show, she is always at odds with the school’s principal and soon discovers that she has psychic abilities, which she uses to solve a local murder. The series is currently one of the most-watched Netflix shows, with 252.1 million views.
2) Stranger Things 4
Created by Matt and Ross Duffer, Stranger Things 4 is the fourth installment in the hit Stranger Things series. Known for its science fiction horror and ode to the 1980s, the show stars Winona Ryder, Millie Bobby Brown, David Harbour, and others. It was released in two volumes in 2022.
The show has multiple plots, like the beginning of a series of teenage murders in Hawkins, Dustin, Lucas, Max, and others trying to solve the mystery behind it, Mike visiting Eleven and Will, and Joyce trying to free Jim from the Russians. Stranger Things 4 is the second most-watched show on the platform right now, with 140.7 million views.
3) Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story
Based on the life of infamous serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is a biographical crime drama created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan and starring Evan Peters as Dahmer. The intense show chronicles Dahmer's life, from his childhood to his teenage and adulthood, and how he became a notorious serial killer.
The show explores his psyche, his run-ins with police, and his final conviction. It also explores racial bias in institutions like the police, creating a massive uproar over its dark and heavy content. The show was, nonetheless, nominated for several awards. It is currently the third most-watched show on the platform, with 115.6 million views.
4) Bridgerton: Season 1
Executively produced by Shonda Rhimes and created by Chris Van Dusen, Bridgerton is a historical romance drama based on the book series by Julia Quinn. The season is set in an alternate Regency-era London, where George III has established racial equality and people of Asian and African descent are bestowed with aristocratic titles.
The first season, released on December 25, 2020, was an immediate success. The show revolves around the love story of Daphne and Simon and the competitive upper circles where bachelors and bachelorettes are introduced to society. It is the fourth most-watched show on the platform, with 113.3 million views.
5) The Queen’s Gambit
Based on a novel by Walter Tevis, The Queen’s Gambit is a period drama directed by Scott Frank and starring Anya Taylor-Joy in the title role. The show is set in the 1950s and 60s and details the life of Beth Harmon, a chess prodigy who overcomes hardships to rise in chess.
The show also explores her struggles with drugs, alcoholism, and gender bias. The show was praised for its production and Anya’s acting, making it the fifth most-watched show on the platform, with 112.8 million views. The Queen's Gambit was the first series on a streaming service to win an Emmy award for an Anthology.
6) Bridgerton: Season 3
The third and latest season of Bridgerton was released in two parts in May and June 2024. The series was launched to massive hype and focused on Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton).
The show has consistently received rave reviews, and Coughlan’s performance was much appreciated this season. The series also began a discussion about positive body image. It is currently the sixth most-watched show on the platform's website, with 106 million views.
7) The Night Agent: Season 1
Created by Shawn Ryan and based on a novel by Matthew Quirk, The Night Agent is an action thriller starring Gabriel Basso in the lead. The series is about an FBI agent, Peter Sutherland (Basso), who is entangled in a vast conspiracy about a mole in the United States government.
The agent not only has to find the traitor but also protect a former tech CEO, Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan), from threatening killers who have already murdered her aunt and uncle. The show was a hit when it was released in 2023 and still holds the seventh position for the most-watched show on the platform with 98.2 million views.
