The Jeremy Allen White starrer The Bear has been the talk of the town for quite some time now. In fact, it has several awards to its name including multiple Emmys and Golden Globes. The intelligent screenplay is brought alive by the talented actors who bring depth and relatability to the admirable characters. Thanks to The Bear's success, White along with Ayo Edebiri have become household names.
White plays talented chef Carmy Berzatto who is making waves in the culinary world. But his dream of climbing the ranks in Michelin-starred restaurants takes a backseat when he has to move back to Chicago to take charge of his deceased brother's sandwich shop. The cut-throat kitchen dynamics combined with heavy family drama create an engrossing narrative that is hard to ignore.
Season 3 of The Bear was released on June 26, 2024. Although it has been renewed for a fourth season, it is unlikely to release so soon. And so, fans who have already finished binging on the recently released season can check out the shows on this list that are similar to The Bear while they await news about Season 4.

Ramy, Gentefied and five other shows like The Bear that explore similar themes of food, family and drama
1) Atlanta (2016)
While Atlanta may not have food as its theme like The Bear, it does feature the story of a man who returns to his hometown and attempts to make something of himself, similar to Carmy. Earn, portrayed by Donald Glover, finds himself back in Atlanta after dropping out of Princeton. Broke and despondent, he pins his hope on his rapper cousin Alfred portrayed by Brian Tyree Henry.
Like The Bear, it has several awards and nominations to its name. The thing that sets Atlanta apart is the distinctive style of storytelling that doesn't exactly follow the common multi-episode story arc concept viewers are used to. In fact, it features standalone episodes that don't even feature the main cast.
Containing four seasons and 41 episodes, this cinematic show is dramatic and yet at the same time, it never loses its sense of humor.
Where to watch: Episodes of this show can be viewed on Hulu, Disney+, Netflix and Prime Video.
2) Sweetbitter (2018)
Viewers who enjoy The Bear know that a restaurant kitchen can sometimes feel like a battleground because of the high-pressure stakes and clashing egos. Even Carmy has a hard time getting the staff on board with his ideas and plans when he takes over The Original Beef of Chicagoland.
In Sweetbitter, Tess (Ella Purnell) is hired as a waitress by a popular restaurant located in New York City. Initially, she feels like a fish out of water and has a hard time keeping up with the rest of the proficient servers and staff. But under the tutelage of Simone, a senior server played by Caitlin FitzGerald, she starts to train her palate and skills.
While the narrative of The Bear primarily focuses on the food and the inner workings of the restaurant, Sweetbitter also gives viewers a peek into the life that Tess leads outside of her job which includes pursuing love interests, drinking in dive bars and much more.
Where to watch: This Ella Purnell starrer is available for streaming on Starz and Prime Video.
3) Ramy (2019)
Like Carmy, the central character in this show Ramy also faces multiple challenges on the path to self-realization. Viewers will also notice that the two shows have a similar cinematic feel, which is not a coincidence. It is because Christopher Storer, one of the producers of The Bear, directed some of the episodes of this comedy-drama.
Ramy Youssef plays Ramy, a millennial American Muslim who finds it hard to toe the line between the age-old expectations his community holds dear and his desire to embrace modern ideals. Similar to The Bear, this show introduces believable characters who are easy to connect to, which in turn makes the audience feel invested in their stories.
Where to watch: Ramy, containing three seasons and 30 episodes, is available on Hulu and Prime Video.
4) The Chef Show (2019)
Seeing as how so much of The Bear is about making good food, fans are constantly intrigued about what dishes the talented chefs will be preparing next. The same passion for food can be found in this cooking show hosted by Jon Favreau, who foodies will remember from the 2014 film Chef.
Favreau is joined by well-known chef Roy Choi who had trained Favreau for his role as Carl Casper in the beloved feel-good movie. In each episode of this show, celebrity guests join the duo.
The Chef Show does cater to viewers who want to take their cooking skills up a notch but at the same time, it also indulges those who enjoy seeing their favorite celebrities in a more informal and relaxed setting. This is one that fans of The Bear shouldn't miss out on.
Where to watch: The Chef Show is available for streaming on Netflix.
5) Gentefied (2020)
Carmy's life majorly revolves around cooking and family, and both of them are central themes in Gentefied. Viewers follow the lives of three young Mexican-American cousins played by J.J. Soria, Karrie Martin Lachney and Carlos Santos. While they pursue their individual dreams, they also step up to help their grandfather revitalize his beloved taco shop, "Mama Fina's".
The Bear has plenty of funny moments but the intensity never truly dissipates. In comparison, Gentefied's pace is much more relaxed but it still does a great job of representing Latino culture and community. Viewers can easily binge this enjoyable show over a long weekend as it comprises only two seasons and 18 episodes in total.
Where to watch: Episodes of Gentefied can be streamed on Netflix.
6) Julia (2022)
Julia, comprising two seasons and 16 episodes, is perfect for fans of The Bear who enjoy watching the chefs at work. It is based on the experiences of Julia Child and how she came to host her own cooking show, The French Chef. Sarah Lancashire plays the well-known chef on the show.
In The Bear, Carmy and each member of his staff feel passionately about food. The same passion prompted Julia Child to pursue cooking as more than a hobby and attend Cordon Bleu which marked the beginning of her culinary journey.
Even though Child's struggles are quite different from Carmy, they exhibit a similar desire to push themselves to newer heights both in their professional and personal lives.
Where to watch: This delightful show can be viewed on HBO Max, Prime Video and Apple TV+.
7) Beef (2023)
The title of this show is strikingly similar to the family business of the Berzattos, The Beef, but the story has little to do with meat or cooking. Steven Yeun plays Danny Cho who gets into a road rage altercation with Amy Lau portrayed by Ali Wong.
But instead of working it out amicably, the incident turns into an unending feud that brings out the worst in both of them. This 10-episode show boasts the same exciting pace as The Bear, and the audience is never really sure about which direction the story is headed next which adds to the anticipation.
Also, much like The Bear, Beef thrives on captivating performances by the lead actors who can effortlessly switch between comedy and drama as and when the script demands it.
Where to watch: Episodes of Beef are available on Netflix.
Viewers looking for quality shows to binge-watch after finishing the latest season of The Bear will not be disappointed with these humorous and entertaining titles.
