8 shows to watch if you liked Apple TV's See

See is a dystopian series by Apple TV, released in 2019 and lasting three seasons. Starring Jason Momoa, and Sylvia Hoeks among others, the series ended in October 2022, with its final episode being nominated for an award.

The story starts in the mountains. A virus has wiped out the entire civilization's eyesight and the people have adjusted to this new lifestyle. Their society has moved forward from this handicap and considers the ability to see it as an omen.

Soon, a set of adopted twins are born with eyesight, and their father must go to great lengths to protect them, and his family.

Fans of the series love it for its despotic themes and immersive nature. Since the end of See, a Jason-Momoa-sized hole is now left in their audience's hearts. Following is a list of series that are a must-watch for audiences invested in seeing more science fiction.

Mandalorian, Last of Us, Westworld, and more apocalyptic series similar to See

1) Last of Us- HBO

A post-apocalyptic series based on the outbreak of a fungal virus, claiming victims rapidly and turning them into zombies. Meanwhile, a group of survivors persists and eke out challenging existences. One of the survivors, Joel, is on a mission to smuggle Ellie, a girl immune to the virus. In only one season, the series has won 92 awards out of 131 nominations, making it the best dystopian series in 2023.

Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey's Last of Us takes the audience on a wild journey filled with scary Clickers and infectious fungus. The sequences of zombified attacks and the nail-biting close shaves Joel and Ellie go through are mind-numbing. For fans of See, this is a must-watch for its gritty atmosphere.


2) Mandalorian- Disney+

Long ago, in a galaxy far, far, away, a lone bounty hunter was on a mission to capture and deliver his bounty: an otherworldly child. The plot thickens in the first episode as the Mandalorian decides to keep the child and help him reach his home planet. The series has amassed 62 awards, including the Annie Awards, BMI Film and TV Awards, and more.

Like See, Mandalorian has an element of one person being against the world and is the perfect remedy for Star Wars fans waiting to know what's next in the story.


3) Westworld- HBO

Westworld is a dystopian series based on the 1973 movie of the same name. The cast includes Evan Wood, Luke Hemsworth, Ingrid Berdal, and more acclaimed actors. The first season starts with the introduction of Westworld, a theme park for the ultra-rich populated with robots who get their memory erased when the guest checks out.

Things change when the robots find a way to gain sentience without erasing their memory. The show ran four successful seasons till June 2022 and eventually ended the story.


4) Black Mirror- Netflix

Black Mirror is a futuristic anthology with apocalyptic themes and a dark insight into the human psyche. Much like See, Black Mirror has consistently employed a dark tone, where nobody can be trusted, and everybody is against you.

They have won 43 awards to date, including BAFTA and GLAAD Media Awards. An interactive Netflix movie, called Black Mirror: Bandersnatch was released in 2018 and won 5 awards. All the stories in this series have varied topics and characters but are all rooted in the detriments of technology.


5) Archive 81 - Netflix

Archive 81 is a series based on a horror podcast of the same name, released in January 2022. Even though it ended with a cliffhanger, Netflix canceled it right after. This is a small-scale series, which began production in 2020 under Rebecca Sonnenshine. The story follows Dan and Melody from two different timelines, joined together through a mysterious tape collector and a secret cult.

Fans of See will appreciate the mood and lonely presentation of characters, and adding a medieval cult in the mix. It does have elements of supernatural horror, which makes it an exciting watch.


6) Altered Carbon- Netflix

Altered Carbon, released in 2018, is a cyberpunk-esque experience spanning two seasons and 18 episodes. The world depicted in this story is in the year 2384, where human memories can be digitized and stored to be used in a new body. A mercenary whose memory is pulled out after 300 years is tasked with solving a murder.

The series won four awards including the Golden Reel Award, and the DGC Craft Award in only two seasons.


7) The Walking Dead- Prime Video

Running from October 2010 to November 2022, this 11-season giant is a zombie apocalypse. It is an addictive series that starts with a sheriff's deputy waking up from a coma to find that the world has been taken over by zombies. Soon after, he leads a zombie survivor group and finds his family and friends.

The main highlight of this series is the world-building and character depth, which is similar to See. In its 12-year journey, the series has won 85 awards and 239 nominations including the Saturn Award and the Golden Globes.


8) Dark- Netflix

A story based in a German village, where children go missing, only for the protagonist to uncover a time-traveling tunnel from his present to 33 years before. The writing encapsulates the troubles of the small town of Winden, where dysfunctional families have operated through many generations.

This 8 award-winning science fiction series is a compilation of many plot twists, and jumbled timelines, where the same individual exists in many generations. Unlike See, this series is in the present but relies heavily on the ability of time travel and dark themes.


This list is a great companion for somebody who has watched See and is looking for recommendations in a similar realm of science fiction TV.
