Agatha All Along episode 3, titled Through Many Miles / Of Tricks and Trials, premiered on Disney+ on September 25, 2024, and followed Agatha Harkness and her coven of witches as they embarked on The Witches' Road. Facing their first trial on The Witches' Road, the coven comes across a big hiccup that puts them through a whirlwind of emotions that sees them face their worst nightmares.
The first trial sees the witches enter a coast house in Agatha All Along, episode 3. There, they drink a wine that contains poison, causing all of them to have hallucinations where they imagine some traumatic past aspects of their life. In the case of Agatha, she is taken back to a memory that may have just alluded to the fact that she traded her son in exchange for the Darkhold.
In her hallucination, Agatha can be seen walking to a baby's crib. When she pulled back the covers on the crib, the Darkhold lay there. This also matches Jennifer's comments, which mention that Agatha had traded her son to gain the Darkhold.
However, the mention of Agatha Harkness' son in Agatha All Along may have confirmed that Nichola Scratch existed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the comics, Scratch is Agatha's child, and also the father of Salem's Seven, and is well known among the mystic arts side of the Marvel universe.
Exploring Nicholas Scratch's comic storyline after he was teased in Agatha All Along episode 3
In the comic books, Nicholas Scratch was created by Len Wein and George Perez. He first debuted in Fantastic Four #185 in May 1977. He was the son of Agatha Harkness and resided in New Salem, a safe space for witches or wizards created by the survivors of the Salem Witch Trials. However, the identity of Scratch's father remains unknown.
Nicholas eventually grew resentful of his mother, Agatha Harkness, as she chose to disband from the enclave to explore the outside world. He then went on to become the leader of New Salem. There, he started making the community believe that Agatha Harkness had ultimately betrayed them. To get back to his mother, he also abducted her alongside the New Salem witches to execute her.
Could Nicholas Scratch make an appearance in Agatha All Along?
Given that it's assumed that Nicholas Scratch wasn't given a chance to grow fully in this universe and was traded in for the Darkhold at a very young age, fans may perhaps get to see him in a future episode. The resentment angle has already been set up with Agatha having decided to let go of her son in exchange for power, which could definitely cause further implications down the line.
Aside from that, he is also the father of the witches in Salem's Seven. So, there may be a connection that Scratch has already returned to the world of the living and is going after her mother. However, fans can expect more to be revealed down the line.
You can stream the first three episodes of Agatha All Along, starring Kathryn Hahn, on Disney+ right now.
