Why did Lilia not leave along with the rest of the coven after her trial at the end of Agatha All Along episode 7?

Agatha All Along episode 7 focused on Lilia's trial, where she had to perform a tarot card reading focusing on the coven's journey and path ahead. She managed to complete her task before the time ran out or the swords on the ceiling fell and implaed them, opening up a door to the Road for the witches. She asked her coven to leave, closing the door behind them as she declared, "I loved being a witch".

Through her visions, Lilia had already realised that she was not meant to live past her trial on the Road, that she was meant to fall. In a last act of bravery, she decided that her fall would also guarantee the safety of her coven. Lilia already had much guilt about knowing the future and yet not being able to warn her original coven of a plague fever that wiped them out. However, she was determined not to fail this time.

Throughout the series, the Salem Seven were a source of much fear for the coven, since they were on the constant hunt for Agatha. Lilia isolated the Seven in her trial chamber, using the Tower tarot card to flip the room upside down. The Seven immediately fell, and were instantly pierced by the many swords on the ceiling.

Lilia's vision also came true. She had seen herself falling, which led to the realisation that her time had come. However, her last fall came with her acknowledgement and love for being a witch, instead of the guilt and the fear she had been living with all her life.

Agatha All Along episode 7 had snippets of Lilia's life story that provided context to her trial, her life, and her powers. Her story started as a young girl learning witchcraft and divination from her mentor, who was also the leader of her coven.

When the young Lilia tried to see through divination, she discovered the horrifying truth that her visions would now come and go all her life. Essentially, Lilia lived her life in pieces over her timeline, being part of and knowing the past and the future in the present moment. Her first brush with grief was when her first coven succumbed to a deadly fever that she had seen coming but failed to warn them adequately about.

After this, Lilia started to suppress her powers over the ages. She even mentioned in earlier episodes that she narrowly escaped the Salem Witch Trials, which might have been another trigger for her. Her power suppression continued till she met William and read his palm and tarot cards. She realised that he would become Billy Maximoff, the son of the Scarlet Witch, and put a Sigil on him to protect the boy.

In Agatha All Along episode 7, despite suppressing her powers, Lilia started to have visions again. She went from the past to the future multiple times, often appearing confused or batty to others. However, she acknowledged her power by claiming her own trial and conducting a tarot card reading for herself as the Traveller. Lilia's knowledge of the past and future was the only thing that helped the coven escape the trial alive.

At the end of the episode, after Lilia fell to her death, the scene changed to her past once more. Young Lilia entered the frame and met her mentor right before her first divination lesson. In a poetic moment, it shows how Lilia will always remain immortal in a sense. Her story continues to repeat cyclically throughout time, tying her future and past versions together in a single thread.

Lilia's tarot card reading and significance for each of the characters explained

In Agatha All Along episode 7, Lilia's tarot card reading was a key moment where the story's pieces fell into place. Lilia first drew the Queen of Cups, representing herself as the Traveller. This card symbolizes the subconscious, fitting Lilia as she's been guided by her visions throughout the story.

The second card was meant to represent what was missing from her life: the Three of Pentacles. The card represents collaboration, community, and voices coming together as one. Lilia spent most of her life alone and ostracised. She suppressed her power and trued not to interact with other witches. A sense of companionship was what she lacked in her life, which she finally found through her newly-formed coven.

The third card was a note to the path they left behind: the Knight of Wands. The card indicates a warrior who is full of fire and fights passionately and bravely. The card served as a reminder for Alice, who was lost on the path the coven had left behind. She fought bravely for her own but ended up losing her powers and her life.

The fourth card was meant to shed light on the path ahead of the witches on the Road: the High Priestess, a card with immense spiritual power. This reading hinted at Jen, and the fact that hers would be the next trial. Jen possessed much wisdom and knowledge about her craft, but stopped using it for reasons yet unexplored. The episode set up a segue for Jen's story to be unveiled on the road ahead.

The fifth card was the obstacle that would stand in the way of the journey: the Three of Swords. This card, and its qualities of grief, sorrow, and heartbreak, were shown as a direct parallel to Agatha and her story.

Under her bold and uncaring exterior, it is clear that Agatha cares very deeply. She fell in love with Rio, wanted to protect Teen, gave Jen a pep talk at the beach house and seemed heartbroken upon seeing her mother Evanora's ghost and its hatred for her. Most importantly, Agatha's loss of her son Nicholas Scratch is something that still affects her. The card reading indicates that Agatha is in for more grief and sorrow up ahead. Ironically, the biggest obstacle in Agatha's quest will also be Agatha herself.

The next card was the windfall, which came up as the Tower Reversed. The Tower itself symbolises disaster, destruction and upheaval, but when it is reversed, it stands for a miraculous transformation. The card essentially pointed at Teen and his transformation into Billy Maximoff, the son of the Scarlet Witch.

The final card that Lilia picked was the destination: Death. "All roads lead to me," echoed in Lilia's mind as she realised what the true end of the Road was for almost everyone who walked on it.

Agatha All Along has been putting its characters in various setting-appropriate costumes and outfits that change as per the trial they are in.

For the first trial, the characters all wore classy but casual outfits for the beach housepl party. In the second trial, which revolves around Lorna Wu and her music, the witches wore jazz and disco themed pieces. The next trial with the ouija board was also on theme as a high school sleepover.

In Agatha All Along episode 7, characters dressed as famous witches from pop culture. Agatha wore a Wicked Witch of the West (Elphaba) costume, reflecting her complex, villainous-yet-relatable nature. Jen dressed as the Evil Queen from Snow White in her old woman disguise, possibly hinting at her skills with potions. Lilia, dressed as Glinda the Good Witch, played the episode's heroic figure, contrasting Agatha.

Finally, Teen was transformed into a version of Maleficent. This might be a hint to him being often misunderstood, warring with his two personalities as William Kaplan and Billy Maximoff. Maleficent could also be a hint to Billy's dark side, the way he lashed out at Agatha and the coven and nearly buried them to death when his powers came to the surface.

Agatha All Along episode 7 came up with another important reveal: the true identity of Rio Vidal. Rio remained a mysterious figure throughout the previous episodes. Her love-hate dynamic with Agatha Harkness, her possible story with Agatha's son Nicholas Scratch, and her sudden disappearance after Teen's reveal, all were mysteries shrouding the character.

Agatha All Along episode 7 finally revealed Rio's true identity through one of Lilia's visions. During the tarot card reading, Lilia flashed back to an encounter she had with Rio when Jen was unconscious. She appeared with a black dagger in her hand, a skull for a face, and a crown on her head, telling Lilia "In the end, all roads lead to me".

Finally, in this form, Lilia recognised Rio as Lady Death herself. She was the first original Green Witch from whom all other Earth Witches derived their abilities. Rio's presence indicates the inevitability of death hanging over Agatha's coven after every single trial they face.
