All major characters in Supacell and their powers explained

All six episodes of Supacell, a British superhero series from Netflix, were released on June 27, 2024. The synopsis of the series reads:

“When five ordinary South Londoners discover they have extraordinary powers, it's down to one man to bring them together to save the woman he loves.”

Andrew Onwubolu, aka Rapman, serves as the showrunner of the series, also co-directing the episodes with Sebastian Thiel. Supacell is about a group of five black South Londoners. A mutation of their sickle cell disorder grants them superpowers, which they use as they go through their daily lives and as they are watched by a mysterious organization that wants to capture them.

About the premise of the series, showrunner Rapman told Tudum:

“I want to tell a story about powers, but with normal people [who have] relationship problems, problems with their children, problems with their siblings, problems at work, problems on the streets.”

Supacell: powers of the five heroes explained

1) Tazer

Tazer (Josh Tedeku) heads the Tower Boys gang and is a drug dealer working under Krazy. He comes across as a hardened criminal beyond the scope of redemption. However, as the story progresses, different layers of his complex personality are revealed.

Taser feels much affection for and looks after the elderly grandmother who has raised him. He believes that his mother betrayed him by abandoning him when he was a child, but Supacell gradually reveals that she too had superpowers and was watched by the mysterious organization.

Taser’s power includes invisibility. Not only can he make himself invisible, but whatever inanimate object he holds also becomes invisible. This is very convenient for Tazer, who takes on illegal tasks.


2) Michael

Michael Lasaki (Tosin Cole) is a delivery driver. He can manipulate time and space, teleporting himself into the past and future and to various locations. He also has the power to freeze people.

Michael is essentially the head of the superheroes in Supacell. Once Michael goes into the future, he sees several hooded creatures. These mysterious figures work for the organization that wants to hold the superheroes captive. He also learns that his fiancée, Dionne, will be dead in a few months.

Michael ventures into the mission of finding out about others like him and building a team that will confront the organization that is hunting for them. He believes that this way, he will be able to save Dionne as well, since he thinks it is the organization that wants to harm her.


3) Rodney

Rodney, aka Rod (Calvin Demba), is an independent drug dealer. He is gifted with super speed and fast healing power. One day, while trying to deliver drugs to his customer, his car broke down. In a hurry, he starts walking. Suddenly, his eyes flash up, and he ends up covering miles within seconds.

Rodney has had a difficult past. He is estranged from his mother, who married another man who cannot tolerate Rodney’s presence. He stays with his best friend. His super speed and healing power make him an asset among the heroes in Supacell, even as he battles past wounds from his family.


4) Sabrina Clarke

Sabrina Clarke (Nadine Mills) works as a nurse, looks after her sister, with whom she stays, and is trying to get things going with her boyfriend. However, things do not improve for her.

Her job becomes more and more demanding given the aggressive patients, her sister’s tantrums get overwhelming for her, and to top it all, she discovers that her boyfriend has been cheating on her.

Sabrina’s powers in Supacell include telekinesis, that is, the ability to move objects without touching them. She can even push away large groups of people with her ability. The series also shows that she is eventually be able to fly using her power.


5) Andre

Andre (Eric Kofi Abref) is the father of a teenage son and is struggling to find work given his criminal record. He was wrongfully convicted in a case of drug dealing after he picked up a friend who cunningly put a large quantity of drugs in his car without informing Andre. Andre is so loyal as a friend that he went to jail without telling on his friend.

Andre has super strength which allows him to lift heavy objects in air and take up physically taxing activities. Also, he has a near-indestructible skin that protects him from most damages.

Supacell: Will there be a season 2?

Netflix has not yet officially confirmed a second season. However, it is not uncommon for streaming platforms to take some time before renewing new shows for their second season. We will bring you updates regarding this once they are officially announced.
