American Murder: Laci Peterson covers in detail the mysterious disappearance and death of Laci Peterson and her unborn son and the conviction of her husband Scott Peterson in the case of her murder. Following the discovery of Laci's body washed ashore the San Fransisco Bay, a case against Scott Peterson was built by investigators.

In this matter, Scott Peterson’s secret affair with Amber Frey was highlighted. Frey played a pivotal role in Peterson’s trial, testifying against him and helping the investigators in the case by sharing details of their affair. She cooperated with the police and recorded the phone conversations she had with Scott, all of which are presented in American Murder: Laci Peterson. The docuseries was released on Netflix on August 14, 2024.

Who is Amber Frey and how did she help in the arrest of Scott Peterson?

A week after Laci Peterson went missing, Amber Frey managed to recognize Scott Peterson in the media coverage. She came forward to the police with the news that she and Peterson were having an affair and that Scott had claimed that he was not married.

Frey was a single mother who worked as a massage therapist and she met Peterson through a mutual friend. Sometime after they met, in December 2002, Peterson admitted to Frey that he had lied about being married and confessed that he had lost his wife. Despite the lie, Frey continued her relationship with him. However, a few weeks later, Amber Frey saw a newspaper clipping of Peterson’s missing pregnant wife, which left her shocked.

She went to the police and gave them all the evidence that she had of their affair. She also recorded her phone calls with Peterson without his knowledge following this in the hopes of catching him lying again.

Scott Peterson was found lying again when he told Frey that he was in Paris traveling while a candlelight vigil was being held for his wife. Frey confronted Peterson about his missing wife and he failed to give an explanation. But he denied having anything to do with her disappearance.

Where is Amber Frey now?

Amber Frey became a pivotal figure in the trial of Scott Peterson. She took the stand as the key witness in the prosecution’s case in 2003 and twelve hours of recorded conversation between her and Peterson were played for the jury.

In November 2004, Scott Peterson was found guilty of the murder of Laci Peterson and their unborn son and was sentenced to death row. However, he was resentenced in 2021, to life in prison without possibility of parole. Last year the L.A. Innocence Project took up Peterson’s case, claiming that there was evidence to prove his innocence. They sought a retrial for Peterson. Despite this, Frey has maintained that Peterson is guilty.

Amber Frey lives in Fresno, California with her daughter Ayiana and son Justin and in 2005 she released a book, Witness, where she detailed her experience in the trial of Scott Peterson. She continues to work as a massage therapist and is also an ambassador for Bucked Up, a pre-workout drink.
