Netflix's American Murder: Laci Peterson revisits the chilling murder of Laci Peterson and her unborn child. The case first captured the attention of national media in the early 2000s. It remains one of the most controversial and debated criminal cases in America.

Laci's husband, Scott Peterson, was convicted in 2004 for the murders of Laci and their unborn son, but this conviction has been fraught with controversy. The Los Angeles Innocence Project has decided to support Scott Peterson. A judge is allowing additional testing of a piece of evidence that has recently been discovered. This new piece of evidence includes a piece of duct tape presented by The LA Innocence Project.

What is the new evidence discovered in the Scott Peterson case?

The criminal defense team from the Los Angeles Innocence Project has requested the retesting of 14 pieces of evidence collected during the primary investigation into the murder of Laci Peterson. A California judge allowed new DNA testing to be carried out only on one item: a 15.5-inch-long piece of duct tape discovered on Laci Peterson’s pants. The tape was initially tested in 2003, but the DNA present was not of sufficient quality to generate a profile.

Scott Peterson’s attorneys argue that the tape could contain DNA pointing to someone else who might be responsible for Laci’s death. They have put out a theory that Laci may have been kidnapped and murdered after witnessing a burglary across the street. However, requests to test evidence related to the burglary have been denied by the court.

American Murder: Laci Peterson presents a detailed investigation into the murder of Laci Peterson

American Murder: Laci Peterson closely follows the case of the murder of Laci Peterson and her unborn child. Laci Rocha met Scott Peterson in 1994 while attending California Polytechnic State University. The young couple immediately fell in love and married two years later. By 2002, they were settled into their domestic lives in Modesto, California, and Laci was pregnant and excited to raise their soon-to-be-born son, Conner.

However, tragedy struck when Laci Peterson mysteriously disappeared in 2002. At the time of her disappearance, she was eight months pregnant. Her body was discovered a year later on the shores of San Francisco Bay. Two bodies were washed up on the shore and found about a mile apart, Laci Peterson's and her unborn son Conner's. Following this, investigations were conducted, and detectives managed to build up a case against her husband, Scott Peterson.

American Murder: Laci Peterson explores particular events related to the case, as well as courtroom and interrogation footage. It also presents interviews with investigators involved in the case, as well as Amber Frey, the woman with whom Scott Peterson was having an affair when Laci Peterson disappeared.

American Murder: Laci Peterson also features Sharon Rocha, Laci Peterson's mother, who volunteered to be part of the series to keep the memory of Laci Peterson and her unborn son Conner alive while seeking justice for their murders.

Spanning over two decades, the case of Scott Peterson remains one of the most controversial cases in American legal history. While the debate continues regarding whether Scott is guilty or has been wrongly convicted, American Murder: Laci Peterson is now available to watch on Netflix.
