American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez will tell a chilling real-life story
Season 1 of this anthology series will deal with the meteoric rise and tragic fall of the former NFL player Aaron Hernandez. He was an American professional football player who played three seasons with the New England Patriots.
In 2013, the NFL community was shocked as Hernandez was arrested and charged with the murder of Odin Lloyd. Lloyd was a semi-professional player who was dating Hernandez's fiancée’s sister. The Patriots immediately released Hernandez following the arrest.
In 2015, he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole at the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center, after being found guilty of first-degree murder. On top of that, while on trial for Lloyd's murder, Hernandez was also indicted for the double homicide of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado, which had occurred in 2012.
In 2017, he was acquitted of the double homicide. However, days after the acquittal, Hernandez was found dead in his cell. It was deemed a suicide.
American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez is not the first TV production to portray the story of Aaron Hernandez. On January 15, 2020, Netflix released a three-part documentary titled Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez that deal with the same.
