American TV reporter Amy Robach and her partner TJ Holmes recently recalled the scary moment from their Memorial Day weekend getaway when they encountered an unexpected storm.
On Wednesday, May 29, 2024, the pair appeared in an episode of their podcast Amy and T.J. to share that they were heading up to Connecticut from New York City. Amy shared that they were near the Yankee Stadium when the skies just “opened up.” She added:
"I honestly was looking back at you as much as I was looking forward. I felt like I never took my eyes off you and the road at the same time because I was worried about both, for anyone even driving in these conditions. I could barely see. It was a flash flood."
Robach was driving her car while Holmes had decided to ride the distance on his motorcycle. The pair did not suffer any injuries.
Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes talk about getting caught in a storm
Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes were the former Good Morning America 3: What You Need to Know hosts. The rumors of the pair dating began in November 2022, after they separated from their spouses. Amy Robach was married to actor Andrew Shue, at the time, and Holmes's wife was attorney Marilee Fiebig.
The pair recently shared their experience getting caught during heavy rains and storms during a trip to Connecticut on their podcast Amy and T.J. The American journalist, Holmes, decided to make the journey on his motorcycle and explained:
"I have a motorcycle that I ride around the city here. love it. We were going to a lake this weekend in Connecticut and I was so excited to put the bike on the road. This is my first actual road trip. Beautiful ride out of the city, out of Manhattan.”
Amy Robach said she did not take her eyes off T.J. as she drove near him during the "flash flood". Holmes said that during the storm, his only choice was to keep going at “40 plus miles an hour”.
If he stopped in an underpass, it would have been “even more dangerous” because of the lightning. He added, "Trucks were passing by, and he "was getting completely drenched." Amy also talked about the situation, saying:
"It was crazy. I was looking back and thinking, 'Oh my god.' Like, when a semi-truck would come by you and push basically an entire tsunami of water on top of you, I thought it might knock you over — just the sheer force of the water cascading over you. And I didn't know what to do.”"
Amy Robach said that her car “thought it was nighttime” because of the darkness of the weather. She had to slow down her car's speed to 25 miles per hour because "lightning and thunder and rain so hard”.
T.J Holmes added that riding on his motorcycle was definitely “an adventure” but it may have been a “stupid thing to do.” He explained:
“I've only been riding a motorcycle full time for, I mean, this summer will make a year. So I don't do a lot of road trips and I don't have a lot of experience with this kind of weather."
The couple, however, shared a carousel of pictures highlighting their Memorial Day weekend trip.
Amy Robach has two daughters Ava and Annalise whom she shares with her first husband, Tim McIntosh. T.J Holmes welcomed one daughter Sabine with Fiebig, and he also shares one daughter Brianna, and son Jaiden with his ex Amy Ferson.
