Anatomy of Lies is an upcoming three-part documentary set to release on October 15, 2024, on Peacock. Directed by Evgenia Peretz and David Schisgall, the documentary delves into the life of Elisabeth Finch, a former writer for Grey’s Anatomy. The series explores the extent of Finch’s lies, which fooled her colleagues, close friends and loved ones for nearly a decade.

In the documentary, Finch's estranged wife Jennifer Beyer is the main character who shows how dishonest Finch is. Before getting married, Beyer, a nurse from Kansas, met Finch at a mental health center in 2019. After they got married, Beyer realized that her life had been used and lied about on purpose.

The documentary follows Beyer's attempt to find out the truth about Finch's scheme to control people, including the lies that were woven into the scripts for Grey's Anatomy.

The official synopsis of the docuseries states:

"The docuseries promises to reveal how former Grey's Anatomy writer Elisabeth Finch fabricated her life story, exploiting the empathy of those around her and using the trauma of others for her benefit."

Exploring Anatomy of Lies and its plot

Anatomy of Lies depicts a distinctive narrative of deception and betrayal, with a particular emphasis on Elisabeth Finch and her fabricated life stories. Finch, who was a contributor to the medical drama Grey's Anatomy, claimed to have experienced cancer, undergone an abortion as a result of treatment and even lost a kidney.

This narrative is significantly influenced by Jennifer Beyer. After realizing that Finch had been exploiting her past trauma to create new storylines for Grey's Anatomy, Beyer courageously exposes Finch's fabrications. The emotional core of the series is Beyer's decision to speak out and expose Finch's deceptions.

The documentary is made up of interviews with people who were hurt by Finch's lies. Interviews with former Grey's Anatomy writers Andy Reaser, Kiley Donovan, and Mark Wilding back up Beyer's interesting story.

They talk about how Finch used their sympathy to get them to give him emotional and professional support based on lies. These interviews are used in Anatomy of Lies to look into how Finch lied to so many people for so long.

Beyer's huge collection of photos and videos that show her life is another interesting thing about the documentary. This visual proof gives Beyer's story more depth and credibility and also lets the audience see for themselves the world Finch has made up of lies.

Several writers who used to work with Finch on Grey's Anatomy are now in the cast of Anatomy of Lies, showing how Finch's lie had an effect on many people.

The docuseries doesn't show Elisabeth Finch, even though her story is important. Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes also declined to participate, leaving Finch’s colleagues to provide insight into the emotional toll her deception took on them.

Anatomy of Lies starts with Jennifer Beyer's calm but powerful testimony, which sets the tone for the rest of the story as Beyer talks about how Finch's lies came to light.

The scenes switch between interviews with Finch's former coworkers and pictures from Beyer's archive. As the trailer shows how much Finch's lies hurt those around her, the tension rises. Beyer thinks about how she trusted Finch and how she was let down.

Anatomy of Lies will be available to stream on Peacock from October 15, 2024.
