Bad Sisters season 1 recap: What are the Garvey sisters' motives for trying to kill John Paul?
Being worried about their sister's marriage with an abusive and downright horrible man is a common denominator of why the four Garvey sisters joked about killing John Paul and why they plotted his demise for real. However, each of them also has personal motives for their murder plot against their brother-in-law.
Bibi's (played by Sarah Greene) vendetta against John Paul is because of his intentionally reckless driving, which caused her to lose her eye. John Paul was trying to scare her with his reckless driving, knowing that their parents died in a traumatizing car accident.
Meanwhile, John discovered Ursula (played by Eva Birthistle) was having an affair and threatened her that he would tell her husband. However, it didn't end there because John changed Ursula's lover's number on her phone to his, which he used to ask her to send explicit photos.
Eva's (played by Sharon Horgan) problem with John Paul is that the latter cost her a promotion at work when he told their boss that she was an alcoholic. However, Eva's motivation for killing her brother-in-law stemmed from what happened 10 years ago—he s*xually assaulted her while she was pregnant, which she didn't know at the time. In the end, she lost the baby.
Becka (played by Eve Hewson), who was the last one to jump on board with planning to kill John Paul, was burned by her brother-in-law when he falsely promised to fund her upstart. The youngest Garvey sister has a strong desire to prove herself and her brother-in-law saying that he would help her start her massage parlor business endeared him to her.
But, in the end, he lied, and when Becka discovered that he killed his father and kept his body in a walk-in freezer, she was all-in on the plot to kill John Paul.
Who killed John Paul in Bad Sisters season 1?
A lot of people have motives for killing John Paul—he was the obvious villain in Apple TV+'s Bad Sisters season 1. But, there was only one person who killed him, and it's not the people who conspired to murder him throughout the series, but his main victim. The final episode solved the mystery of his death, revealing that it was his wife, Grace (played by Anne-Marie Duff), who killed him.
John always made Grace feel worthless. But despite all that, she believed that he loved her. However, everything changed on her birthday when John Paul accused Eva of seducing him a decade ago, the same incident that Eva claimed that John Paul r*ped her and caused her to miscarry.
The vile accusation about her sister snapped Grace out of her husband's spell, and Grace managed to kill him.
However, she made his death look like an accident using a red scarf she knitted before. The official cause of death is that John Paul was driving his quad bike back to the cabin when the red scarf got caught in the wheel, ultimately breaking his neck. What really happened in Bad Sisters season 1 is that Grace strangled her husband to death using his pajamas. It was the same pajamas she made him wear for his burial, ultimately burying the murder weapon.
The only other person to know the truth before the rest of the sisters is Roger, Grace's neighbor and friend. He helped her move John Paul's body and stage his "death." He was more than willing to help Grace because he didn't have a great relationship with John Paul after the latter threw back his friendly gesture in his face.

All the times the Garvey sisters tried to kill John Paul but killed someone else instead
The four Garvey sisters plotted their way to John Paul's demise in Bad Sisters season 1, but not all of their plans were successful. Some of them were horrific because instead of killing their brother-in-law, they accidentally killed someone else and gravely injured another.
Becka's plot to murder John Paul in Bad Sisters season 1 was locking him in the freezer room, but like any plan of the Garvey sisters, it didn't pan out. Instead of John Paul, Becka accidentally locked his mother, Minna, in the walk-in freezer, ultimately freezing her to death. Minna was close to Becka, and accidentally killing the woman left her with a lot of guilt and grief.
As their attempt to murder John Paul ramped up, the Garvey sisters also accidentally killed the Williams' dog, Oscar. Bibi also accidentally injured an innocent bystander when she was trying to aim at John Paul's head during a game of paintball in Bad Sisters season 1. Instead of hitting her brother-in-law, Bibi hit a man in the eye, taking out his eyeball and eventually blinding him just like her, making her tremendously guilty afterward.
