There's no denying that The Simpsons has earned its spot as one of TV's greatest shows. It ushered in the concept of animated shows for adults, with its first season aired in 1989. The show ran for 36 seasons and 677 episodes.

The show follows the lives of the Simpson family - Homer, Marge, Lisa, Bart, and Maggie - who live in Cypress Creek. While fans love almost all episodes of the show, a couple of episodes stand a cut above the rest.

1) Homer's Enemy (Season 8, Episode 23)

Homer's Enemy brings a much more realistic angle to The Simpsons. The episode introduces the character of Frank Grimes, a hardworking individual in Homer's workplace who had to struggle hard to be where he was.

He is resentful of Homer Simpson as everything seems to fall into his lap despite his idiocy, which is considered normal by everybody. He attempts to expose Homer by making him participate in a children's contest. But when Homer wins the competition, Grimes has a meltdown and ends up electrocuting himself.

The episode is considered one of the best episodes of The Simpsons because it brings a realistic angle to the show, which makes it very compelling.


2) Cape Feare (Season 5, Episode 2)

Cape Feare is based on the 1962 film, Cape Fear, directed by J. Lee Thompson. The episode shows Bart Simpson getting threatening messages from an anonymous sender. To protect themselves, the Simpsons go into witness relocation and rename themselves as the Thompsons till the culprit is caught.

The episode makes for an entertaining watch as it brings back the long-running Simpsons gag of Sideshow Bob, who, despite damning evidence, is dismissed as a potential culprit thanks to the efforts of the Blue Haired Lawyer.


3) Treehouse of Horror V (Season 6, Episode 6)

Treehouse of Horrors V parodies The Shining, where viewers see Homer go off the edge due to a lack of TV and beer. It is part of a three-part vignette where one vignette sees Homer traveling in time to make the future worsen multiple times, and the other sees teachers feasting on kids in detention.

This episode is considered one of the funniest episodes of the show, as the recurring theme of Willie entering to save the day only to get an ax in his back leaves the audience in splits.

Who Shot Mr. Burns? is a classic whodunit episode considered one of the best episodes of the show. The episode sees Willie striking oil while trying to bury Super Dude, the class pet, turning Springfield Elementary rich overnight. This sparks jealousy and greed in Mr. Burns, who attempts to steal the kids' money.

However, when he suspiciously gets shot during his attempt, everybody present at the scene becomes an immediate suspect, and viewers try to discover who the culprit could be.

You Only Move Twice is a Bond parody that is a huge hit among Simpsons fans. The episode shows Homer Simpson moving his entire family to a different town for a new job. He does this without consulting anybody, and while he is happy at his job, Marge, Bart, and Lisa have a hard time. Moreover, Homer is scathingly oblivious that his boss is a Bond supervillain, making the episode hilarious.
