Beyond Goodbye Season 1 is Netflix's new addition to Japanese romantic dramas, which is set to premiere on the streaming platform on November 14, 2024. The series is written by acclaimed Japanese screenwriter Yoshikazu Okada, who is known for his notable early works including The 8-Year Engagement, The Last 10 Years, Be with You, and Echo of Silence.
Beyond Goodbye Season 1 revolves around the story of a grief-stricken girl Saeko, who begins to feel a zealous connection with a stranger named Naruse. Saeko gets awestruck upon realizing that Naruse has the heart of her dead lover Yusuke, and he can recall his memories.
Acclaimed Japanese filmmaker Hiroshi Kurosaki is the director of Beyond Goodbye Season 1. Kurosaki is known for his major screen credits including NHK Special, Hi no Sakana, Hiyokko, and Gift of Fire.

What is the story of Beyond Goodbye season 1
Beyond Goodbye is the story of Naruse, a girl who is stricken with a period of grief. She had lost the love of her life Yusuke, to a fatal accident, and finds it difficult to overcome that it happened right on the day he proposed to her.
Saeko's life takes a surprising turn, when she meets a stranger named Naruse, and immediately feels a deep connection with him. She is left awestruck upon realizing destiny has brought her to the very same man, who was saved by the donated heart of her lover.
What's more shocking is that all of Yusuke's memories had been transferred to Naruse, with his heart. Hence, he can remember all the past events and has the chance to fill the void inside of her. Headed by cinematographer Kosuke Yamada, Beyond Goodbye Season 1 amidst the beautiful landscapes of Hokkaido and Hawaii.

Beyond Good gets official entry in Busan's International Film Festival
The Busan International Film Festival is one of the most prestigious film festivals held every year at Haeundae-gu, Busan, South Korea. This year, the 29th BIFF took place from October 2, 2024, to October 11, 2024, and screened a total of 278 films from 63 countries.
Hiroshi Kurosaki and Yoshikazu Okada's collaboration Beyond Goodbye made history this year, by becoming the first Japanese entry in BIFF's Onscreen Category.
As per a Netflix article, published on October 2, 2024, Japanese singer Kenshi Yonezu, also known by his stage name Hachi had written his new song "Azalea" dedicated to the series. As per the singer, he wrote the song, remembering the tragic loss of Saeko, and her experiences in the series. Yonezu says,
“Beyond Goodbye opens with the unusual scenario of Saeko meeting the person who received the heart of her deceased fiancé. While the realities of this world dictate that the chances of this happening are highly unlikely, I think there is an important element to the story that will resonate personally with everyone.
The singer further adds,
As I worked on this song, I reflected on Saeko’s predicament of not knowing where her lost fiancé begins or ends, along with the inner turmoil she faced as she deliberated on whether to maintain her distance. I hope you enjoy listening to this song.”
Kenshi Yonezu wrote the song, keeping it closely parallel to the emotion of the story. He recalls, visiting the set of Beyond Goodbye, while it was in production, and drew his inspiration from it.
