Danny's humorous chaos and dark humor return in Bookie season 2 episode 1, which dropped on Max on Thursday, December 12, 2024. The first of the eight-episode second season is out, and it brings another stand-out performance from Sebastian Maniscalco as Danny, who was on his way to win Sandra back.

In Bookie season 1, Danny had an epiphany seeing Sandra's dating profile during Grandma Mary and Frank's backyard wedding. He wanted her to come home, so he planned to go to Modesto, where she had gone to her mother to win her back. Bookie season 2 episode 1 kicked off with Danny being pulled over by a cop for speeding on the highway on his way to Modesto.

Danny had one goal in mind—to win Sandra over. And he did, and by the end of episode 1, Sandra and Anthony went home with him. However, an insistent and meddling mother-in-law also made the trip home with them.

Sandra and Anthony come home with Danny in Bookie season 2 episode 1

Bookie season 2 episode 1 saw Sandra and Anthony leaving Modesto to return home with Danny. Season 2 of the comedy series kicked off with Danny heading off to Modesto to follow Sandra and win her over after she left in Bookie season 1. However, winning over his wife wasn't easy for the veteran Los Angeles bookie.

On the way to Modesto, a cop pulled Danny over for speeding on the highway. He got away with a speeding ticket and a wad of cash for the officer, but it was only the first of the snags he faced on his way to getting Sandra to come home. When he arrived at the trailer park in Modesto, he found Sandra with her eccentric mother, Wendy. The older woman didn't make it easy for Danny to reason with Sandra because she kept butting in.

But throughout his spiel, Danny explained that he is what he is and that Sandra knew about his job and what it entails when she married him. He also reasoned that even if he sold everything and went legit like Sandra wanted, he still wouldn't be able to protect her and Anthony all the time.

His speech was interrupted again when Anthony returned home from his neighbor friend's home to tell Danny that his car was being towed. Jethro's brother, whom Danny called Captain Hook, was trying to tow his car. They ended up in a physical altercation until Sandra intervened and haggled with the man to leave Danny's car alone. She paid him $1200 and told Danny that she wanted it back.

By the end of Bookie season 2 episode 1, Sandra and Anthony returned home with Danny. Anthony was all too happy about it because, as he told his mom on the drive home, "Modesto sucks a**."

Sandra and Anthony returned home with Danny in Bookie season 2 episode 1, but someone else tagged along from Modesto, much to Danny's liking. While Sandra and Anthony drove her car with some of their things in the backseat, Danny drove home with his mother-in-law, Wendy, in the passenger seat.

Sandra and her mom have a better relationship in Bookie season 2 episode 1, and it's most likely why she went with the rest of the family. It brings another eccentric character to Danny's home life. At some point, he had Wendy preparing lunch to bring on the job.

Bookie season 2 episode 1 saw Frank alive and well, mostly, much to Grandma Mary's delight. Back in the season 1 finale, he suffered a cardiac arrest while exchanging vows with Mary.

In the first episode of season 2, Frank is hooked up to different machines at the hospital, with the distraught Mary always beside him. Ray, Lorraine, and Hector were also there waiting for the prognosis.

At some point, Mary thought that Frank had died, with the EKG machine beeped and showed that he flatlined, then went back up again with a heartbeat before showing another flatline. In true Bookie dark comedy, it turned out that the machine was defective, and a hospital attendant had to smack it to work properly.

Frank woke up later, but there was something wrong with him. He kept saying "Mahnanga" repeatedly and nothing else, but no one knew what he meant. When Hector asked Grandma about what Mahnanga means, she said, "I have no f*cking idea."

After Danny won Sandra over, and now that she and Anthony are back home, Danny and Ray got back on business. It was business as usual for them, making rounds and collecting money from their client, but someone was tagging along. Ray Jr. was with them because his mom was in Vegas, so Ray had to be on father duties.

Danny wasn't happy about it because, as he told Ray, carrying a baby while making rounds "does not help our street cred." However, having Ray Jr. around was advantageous in the end, at least for "Ray Sr."

Ray Jr. became his sidekick when he met a woman through him at the bar where he and Danny stopped during their rounds. Petey and Danny bet on when Ray would hook up with the woman, and Petey bet on that night. Danny was about to lose the bet when Ray asked him to watch Ray Jr. that night so he could hook up with the woman at the bar.

Danny was bummed to lose the bet, so they compromised. Ray was about to postpone hooking up with the woman until the next night and they agreed to split Petey's money 50-50.
