What happened in Chicago Fire season 13 so far?

Chicago Fire season 13 began with Battalion Chief Dom Pascal taking over as the head of Firehouse 51 after Wallace Boden left his team in the season 12 finale. Pascal's appointment creates friction with Senior Firefighter Christopher Herrmann, who was recommended by Boden to take over his position. However, Herrmann was reluctant to take the test that could secure his position.

In episode 8 of season 13, Herrmann and his best friend Mouch take their respective promotion exams, which, if passed, could see them in new roles as captain and lieutenant of Firehouse 51, respectively. With their results expected to come out in episode 9, the dynamics between Pascal, Mouch, and Herrmann could see some major shifts.

Meanwhile, Joe Cruz's past comes back to haunt him as he receives disturbing threats from the criminal gang known as the Insane Kings, which includes his brother Leon among its past members. In Chicago Fire's season 1 episode 10, Cruz had left the gang's leader, Flaco, to die in a fire. However, it now seems that Flaco's cousin Junior, newly released from prison, is looking to settle scores with Cruz and Leon.

Moreover, while answering a wellness check call, Novak and Violet find a man hanging from the ceiling and quickly rescue him. However, Violet gets shocked seeing Novak yell at the man in anger, possibly triggered by the incident due to a past traumatic experience.

Violet and Carver's will-they-won't-they dynamic continues in the fall finale episode of Chicago Fire season 13. Carver, who began dating his ex-girlfriend Tori at the start of the season, finds himself single by the eighth episode. Meanwhile, Violet moves on from Carver and begins dating Flynn, a man she met on a call.
