Citadel: Diana is the upcoming spy action TV series that is based on Josh Appelbaum, Bryan Oh, and David Weil's Citadel, which premiered on April 28, 2023. Alessandro Fabbri has created the upcoming series for Prime Video.

As per Prime Video, the Italian installment of the franchise will be the first local production launched within the Citadel universe. Besides Citadel: Diana, Prime Video is also developing several spin-offs, with settings being in Spain, Mexico, and India.

Amazon MGM Studios and Cattleya, a Rome-based production house known for Gomorrah and ZeroZeroZero, have produced the series. Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Ostot, David Weil, and Scott Nemes have executively produced the show and the other segments of the franchise.


When will Citadel: Diana be released

Citadel: Diana is set to be released on October 10, 2024. Besides announcing the premiere details, Prime Video also dropped the official teaser that featured the main lead, Matilda De Angelis, who will play Diana Cavalieri.

The official trailer of the series was released on September 11, 2024. The actress is predominantly known for starring in HBO’s The Undoing, with globally acclaimed actors like Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant.

Like the foundational series, the spin-off will also run for six episodes, all set to be released simultaneously. Development of the Citadel: Diana began in October 2022, with the series being majorly filmed in Italy and other locations including Lugano, Mendrisio, and Saint Gotthard Massif in Switzerland.

First in the pipeline is Diana, the highly anticipated initial spin-off that will set the tone for the global narrative expansion. Following closely behind is the Indian installment Citadel: Honey Bunny, which will be starring Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu.

Being one of the originals releasing this October 2024, Citadel: Diana will be available to watch exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. The streamer will be offering more titles for its subscribers to binge, including shows like The Devil’s Hour season 2, The Vox Machin season 3, and Like a Dragon: Yakuza season 1.


Plot summary

Here’s how Amazon describes the plot of the series:

"Milan, 2030: Eight years ago, the independent global spy agency Citadel was destroyed by the powerful enemy syndicate, Manticore. Since then, Diana Cavalieri (Matilda De Angelis), an undercover Citadel agent, is alone, trapped behind enemy lines as a mole in Manticore."

The synopsis adds:

"When she finally sees a way out and the chance to disappear forever, the only way to do so is trusting the most unexpected ally, Edo Zani (Lorenzo Cervasio), the heir of Manticore Italy and son of the head of the Italian organization, Ettore Zani (Maurizio Lombardi), who’s vying for leadership against the other European families."
