Coroner is a Canadian crime drama television series that premiered on January 7, 2019, on CBC. Developed by Morwyn Brebner, the series is based on M.R. Hall's mystery novels from the Jenny Cooper series. The series casts Serinda Swan as the primary protagonist, Jenny Cooper.

Produced by Suzanne Colvin-Goulding, Coroner follows the adventures of Dr. Jenny Cooper, who delves into a strange string of murders happening in Toronto. After three successful seasons, on June 2, 2021, CBC was taken up for the fourth season. Coroner Season 4, was released on January 6, 2022, and ran for 12 episodes till April 7, 2022.

The series ensembles a talented cast of primarily Canadian actors, including Serida Swan, Roger Cross, Kiley May, Any McQueen, Ehren Kassam, Nicholas Campbell, Éric Bruneau, Tamara Podemski, Jennifer Dale, etc.

Serinda Swan as Dr. Jenny Cooper

Serinda Swan plays the role of Dr. Jenny Cooper, the protagonist in the series. She was the former Emergency Room doctor, who has been appointed as the coroner in Toronto. She is still suffering the tragic death of her husband, Dr. David Kalighi, who died of an aneurysm.

David was an avid gambler, who left the family drowning in debt. As a widow, she had to sell her land and house to pay the bill, which led her to move to the city. Her PTSD makes her visualize discomforting scenes around her that get worse with the gruesome murders she encounters.

Swan is an American actress known for her role as Zatana Zatara in the Superman prequel Smallville (2001). She also played Medusa in MCU's Inhumans (2017). Recently, the actress took up the role of Karla Dixon in the second season of Amazon Prime Video's Reacher.

Roger Cross as Detective Donovan McAvoy

Roger Cross plays the role of Detective Donovan McAvoy, a senior homicide investigator. He has a brief encounter with Jenny, and the two eventually begin to share their passion for reaching the root of every crime. Despite their differences, the two team up to solve convoluted storylines behind mysterious deaths in the city.

Cross is primarily known for his role as Curtis Manning in the American television drama 24. Some of his recent works include Re: Uniting (2023), Wanted Man (2024), Sight Unseen (2024), and Fire Country (2024).

Éric Bruneau as Liam Bouchard

Éric Bruneau plays the role of Liam Bouchard, an ex-Armed Forces veteran, with whom Jenny starts to develop a notion of romantic interest. The two meet between their investigations and grow close to each other. Liam helps Jenny to renovate her house and provides a warmth that they could be a possible family together. But the cards start to change as the story progresses.

Bruneau is a Canadian actor who made a notable appearance with his role as Charles Rivard in the 2021 sports drama Virage: Double Faute. His major appearances include The Night Lohan Woke Up (2022), Dusk for a Hitman (2023), Avant le Crash (2022), In Memoriam (2024), and So Long Marianne (2024).

Ehren Kassam as Ross Kalighi

Ehren Kassam plays the role of Jenny's son, Ross, who is still lamenting the loss of his father, and their changing situation. An exceptional swimmer on the school team, he left his sportsmanship, after his father was drowned in a swimming pool. Ross has homosexual temptations and must find a way to identify his true self, as well as his future goals.

Ehren Kassam is a Canadian actor and filmmaker whose major works include Once Upon a Time (2015), The Strain (2017), Carter (2019), Bad Influence (2022), Hudson & Rex (2022) and Paying for It (2024).
