Creature Commandos premiered its first two episodes on Max on December 5, 2024. Titled The Collywobbles and The Tourmaline Necklace, respectively, the series focuses on a group of monsters assembled to take on a dangerous mission. Being the official beginning of the new DC Universe across films, television, and video games, the series is created by James Gunn.

In Creature Commandos, fans see Task Force M assemble to take on a mission to fight Circe in Pokolistan who is organizing a coup to take over the country. It features characters such as Rick Flag Sr., The Bride, Frankenstein, and more. The second episode also heavily focuses on The Bride's origins and her relationship with her creator.

With the first two episodes out, let's dig into how it sets up the remainder of the series.

In the opening moments of Creature Commandos, fans see Circe trying to take over the country of Pokolistan so that she can later conquer Themyscira as well - the same island Wonder Woman is from. However, Pokolistan maintains great relationships with the United States of America and to protect that and stop Circe Waller enlists Rick Flag Sr.

However, following the events of The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, where Waller's daughter had outed her secrets, Amanda was no longer allowed to enlist humans for dangerous missions. Hence, Waller then comes up with Task Force M which consists of The Bride, Nina Mazursky, G.I. Robot, Weasel, and Dr. Phosphorus. And yes, the M stands for Monsters.

Together, the team then heads to Pokolistan where they are assigned to save Princess Ilana Rostovic from Circe as she is the heiress to the throne as well. In Pokolistan, while the team gets comfortable, Rostovic takes a liking to Rick Flag Sr. and while he initially dismisses her romantic advances, he does end up giving in to them.

The Bride's origins are explored

Creature Commandos episodes 1 and 2 both heavily explore The Bride's origins. At the end of episode 1, The Bride escapes from the castle with Nina following her and she takes her to her birthplace. However, when she enters the castle where she was born, the groundskeeper makes a call to Frankenstein notifying him that his love has arrived.

Episode 2 of Creature Commandos then gives further backstory into who The Bride is. She was created by Victor Frankenstein as Eric Frankenstein craved love in his life too. However, after she was created, she took a while to get used to life and Eric grew impatient. She spent most of her time with Victor as he was teaching her the basics of being alive, and this further made Eric jealous.

The Bride eventually fell in love with Victor and they started a romance together which angered Eric and he later killed Victor as a result of it. The Bride escaped, but throughout the two centuries she has been alive, Eric has been chasing her as well to win her over.

While going through the castle, Circe is notified that The Bride and Nina are outside of the Princess' castle at the end of episode 2. So alongside her goons, she then decides to attack the castle, and the Bride and Nina are taken by surprise as they are then forced to fend for themselves.

While The Bride is able to stand her own against Circe, she eventually gets gravely injured and so does Nina as both of them are taken into her custody then. At the same time, Rick Flag Sr. and the rest of the Creature Commandos are on their way to help them but are too late to do so.
